    Purchasing a ticket

    Advertisements

So I was accepted to the Jan 2012 class and apparently there is a deadline for Oct 1st to send in the itinerary to the new student coordinator. I was wondering if anyone has just purchased a one-way ticket before and it being sufficient for the coordinator to "save the seat" for the upcoming class?

Jan 2012 semester runs from Monday, Jan 09 through Friday, Apr 20. I know you don't have your exam schedule (i.e. your last exam may possibly be April 18) but a safe bet would be to schedule your return flight that weekend. G'luck.

Call the Ross admin and ask them to send you a schedule of the last exam dates for each semester. Make sure to have them email it to you. I asked over a year out and it was provided and was accurate. Also, a general rule that started in Jan 2011 was that the 1st semester final was on Mon of the last week, 2nd's was on Tues, 3rd's on Wed, and 4th's on Fri. This was explained to me late in 2010 by the admin and it has also been accurate, but I would still call and request an exam schedule.

The student services office requires a round trip ticket to be purchased because you need to include a copy of the round trip ticket for a student visa. I'd also bring a copy of it to the airport while traveling just in case you get someone in a bad mood that will ask or give you a hard time. But the other posters are right, if you are a first semester student in January, your exam will be on April 16th, meaning you can fly home on April 17th.

To note I was asked for proof of return ticket when I arrived in the DOM in May 09. It really depends who you get.

First time flying in, don't take any chances..I've heard of people getting held up stateside for not having a round-trip ticket. In DOM, it could be a total crapshoot what happens. After 1st sem, you can be a little more "daring," especially if you get the student visa.

yeah, small underdeveloped island with little tourism investment means that its not the cheapest of destination. for christ the same amount i spent to get here and back could get me a trip to Australia and back! Thats like 2x the distance and doesn't require me to front costs to overnight somewhere... at least i can sleep on a trans-pacific flight overnight
