"who started it" isn't at all the issue. If someone posts inappropriate you have a choice. Ignore it, "blue card" it to the moderators, or risk the consequences of violating TOS yourself. Why folks need to one up anonymous others on the internet ill never figure, but whatever the reason, you've all agreed to terms of use. if you can't comply dont post.

my own experience with ems
i am not on the island any longer, so i don't know about this cow incident. however, a couple semesters ago i had the unfortunate incident of having to seek medical attention with ems after eating gravel during a nasty scooter accident. if it wasn't for my friend, an ER PA, being there with me I also would have been bandaged up without removing the dirt and gravel from my hands and arms. and he neglected to pay any attention to my very large and colorful foot that i couldn't walk on. i had better treatment from the locals that found me on the side of the road and poured coconut milk on my open wounds (a suprisingly effective treatment). i am not knocking all of the ems personel, i only know the one experience that i had with one person. but it is sad that in a medical school, that was the best medical care i could get. i couldn't even get an x-ray of my foot that was crushed and dragged under the scooter.

Come on folks, let's be civilized and resolve this misunderstanding like a typical Ross student does... there is only one way to settle this.
Ross U Fight Club. Midnight on the basketball court. No gloves, no gouging, no biting. I'll be taking bets and laying odds. No weapons except for broken Kubuli bottles. Remember, the first rule of Ross Fight Club is..... ? |

EMS? whats this?
Simply and shortly put, not all EMS staff needs training, but some need not only training but to step down from being EMS. Completely unprepared and uncaring. And all of this for a dull, superfluous LOR? Just go ahead and join one of the other futile groups on campus and get your silly LOR that will surely get you into John Hopkins….but please, don’t come stitching me up, k?

I would pay
I would pay to get medic105 there, but like all feeble, little wanna punks, he wont answer anyones p.m.'s to "discuss" his attitude and the possibility of adjusting it for him. He talks and whines and talks and whines when he has an audience, but not when the chips are down. And to the person on the scooter, I am not, by any means bashing the Ross EMS, but there is something called scope of practice, and you, being in rotations, should know that. The problem is you get people like medic105 who think they know everything and because they are on an island where anything goes and may or may not have taken a crack at sewing up cadavers, think they are qualified to actually do it, when they arent. The funny thing is, I did inquire about the ems here last semester and although I did not have my cert. with me, I was told to just bring it back when I go home. That garbage would not fly at all anywhere in the states. Yes, there are qualified, responsible individuals on Ross EMS, that isnt the point. The point is there are also UNQUALIFIED people that have the "I am a med student, I know everything about medicine" attitude, and i am sure you saw that when you were here. And medic105? answer any of our p.m's. 13 days? I'll see you in the states. If I dont, someone else will.

Lets talk about this scope of practice that you are talking about. In the lovely island of Dominica, we, those that have cerftifications are NOTHING. We in reality are working under the physicians at this school who give us our OWN scope of practice. The physician apparently told this ems member to do the suturing, so again you are saying things in which you really dont have any clue left. So just keep quiet and if I do see you in clinical, I will put money on the fact that I would run circles around you....

get your facts straight wannabe105
Ok, like so many morons, I need to det you straight. Lets talk facts. The person in question got in touch with a lawyer, who already was contacted by Ross (as of now its 12 in the afternoon monday). If the school provides or offers to provide EMS to its students, even though it is accredited and licenced by the US (after all, you tell mommy and daddy it IS a US school located in the carribbean, do diminish the fact that you are, like all of us, in a carribbean med school) Then the school is liable for whatever happens to anyone who is treated by the EMS. Now lets define the legality for you, because you obviously like to make things up, the scope of practice is what that person is certified to do in the state that the said person was certified, NOT working off the licence of anyone else here. Go get your facts straight and stop making things up. Or better yet, get off your lazy butt and check for yourself. It is people like you, who just pretend they know facts and spread them around that makes this the rumor mill it is. Go back to the cesspool you came from and tell mommy to raise a better kid. Why are you not with Ross EMS any more? Personal reasons?, No, come on and share with us. Please. I think you owe it to all of us here on this forum.
