SGU and scholarship vs Ross no scholarship -- What should I do

Just received a phone call from SGU assistant Dean offering me 3K scholarship each term, about 30K over 4 yrs.

This actually makes things more complicated. Before SGU decided to offer me scholarship, I was 100% ready for Ross. Now i am totally torn between the two.

The Dean tried to convince me by emailing me a checklist highlighting some facts about SGU vs Ross like entering academic profile, USMLE passing rate, campus facilities, residency placement etc. But I did my research and I know the facts very well. At the moment, I am more inclined towards Ross because I can come back earlier and it's still abt 30K cheaper than SGU after 4 yrs, provided I dnt have to repeat a semester

I know I'll prob. receive more positive feedback on a Ross forum but I would appreciate more neutral and objective input. Thanks.

That's actually a tough call. I've heard good things about SGU and the island. But since the tuition evens out in the end, it may come down to time. Would a May start date at Ross end up matching in the same year as a Fall start at SGU? If not, that's one year of salary difference. And do you really want summer breaks??

academically they are both pretty much neck in neck. yes, ross is cheaper and you get off the island sooner, but sgu is definitely on the nicer island. i've actually heard complaints about sgu's on-island clinical teaching, but that could just be disgruntled ex-students and such. they're pretty much equal in everything.

thanks for your input. ya i think time and money is a big factor for me coz i am a non-trad student in my late 20s. i dont care abt having summer breaks or adventures on the island, i just want to finish sooner.

that's what i thought: education, passing rate and residency placement are all comparable. Ross is not subpar to SGU at all, if not better in some areas. I heard the living condition is the same on these 2 islands, SGU's campus does look better but it's pretty primitive outside the campus.

When they offered u the scholarship did they promise to hold tuition the same or can they keep raising it, cause if they give out a bunch of 3k scholarships to fill the 500 seat class, and then raise tuition by 4k a semester then this might not seem like such a great deal.

actually CARICOM provisionally accepted SGU due to their clinical teaching issues. not sure what is going on there but from a professor at ross who used to work at SGU they are bringing in a lot of indian trained docs who haven't even completed residency to teach ICM stuff at a cheaper rate.

    "O' Fortuna"

When you sign your life away to Ross Univ. you will hear the sound of Carl Orff's "O fortuna" playing in the background as the admin begins to burry their hands in your pockets, digging deeper each semester.

You can either go to SGU and enjoy the time you spend with competent instructors, friendly advisors, and flawlessly scheduled clinicals, or you can bury your head in the sand and let Ross do what they want with you. Either way you will get a degree, but if I could do it over again, I would opt out of Ross's "temple of doom" experience and head over to SGU.
