How early is "early"?

I keep hearing to send in your application "early." Well, I just sent in my application for January 2004 at the end of April 2003. I was just wondering if that is early enough. Also, approximately how long will it take for Ross to process my application? Thank you for any input

Regards

Early

As early as possible so you can get in the semester you want. Sounds like you application is plenty early. Since it is so early, it make take a little longer for them to process you (they need to worry about others first). But you will still be better off. Just call and make sure they received it.

Good luck!

Jan

I am applying for Jan 2004 also, and will send my app in next week after finals are over. Does anyone know what happens if you send your app in without your letters of reccomendation? The people who are writing mine are not done yet will they review my app without them, or will they put it on hold until they get them?

Good luck to those applying

Michele

LOR

Michele, when I applied, it was required for the letters to be sent separately by the person who wrote it. These letter are to be written and mailed by the author, and usually should not pass by you first. I stongly recommend that your name is also written clearly on the front (ie. Letter of Recommendation for: Michele LastName" in BOLD. Maybe the rules have changed, but that is the way it was for me.

letters of recommendation

i was told by the NJ office that your application will not be looked at until it is complete in its entirety. in addition, if your application is complete, then you won't have to worry about bits and pieces being lost. i had my letters of recommendation sent to me in a sealed envelope (which is approved by NJ office). my professor even signed the back of the letter so if the seal was broken someone could tell.

documents

hand deliver your documents to the ross official if at all possible.
Drive there if you are less than 4 hours drive away.

Otherwise, by all that you hold holy, mail it with tracking number.

Even express mail takes 2 weeks to get from the NJ office's mail room to the appropriate person across the hallway. So wait about a week after you confirm it's delivery, have that printout in your hand then call them to make sure they got it. They'll say no, they did not. Then mention you confirmed delivery. Then they'll say, yes, they did.

an ounce of prevention...

Might be a good idea to photocopy all of the documentation that you send to the NJ office. I photocopied my application, my taxes, my fasfa, acceptance letter, and my visa appliaction adn brought them to the island with me. Also might be a good idea to bring a copy of your application with you when you go to interview, depending on where you go to interview. Better to spring for the copies than have to do it over.
Best luck,
Vanessa

dupes

Bringing extra copies of everything to the interview is a great idea. Wish I thought of it. But then, I never imagined the following scenario could have happened.

I confirmed with 3 people to send letters of recommendation. They were not overlaps, but highlighted three different and important aspects about me. A week before the interview, I called ahead and asked which ones Ross@NJ got. They said two and gave me their names without me mentioning the names (so I know those were there). I figured since the third was on the way, it would also be there by the interview.

After the interview, I asked how many letters of recommendation they got so far. The interviewer said one. I insisted that a week ago, they had two. The interviewer said these things happen, tell the others to send them again, but do it soon because they have to send the package down to Dominica. I called one late that evening and bugged her to fax another copy to Ross by the next morning. I could not locate the third in time.

I guess those two were enough because I got in.
So I guess the operative word here is "No harm, no foul."
