Hi,

I was hoping you could answer a very simple question-I've tried calling admissions bout this, but no one seems to know....so here goes.

If I enter the Jan 2005 class for med, would it be possible for me to match in 2008? i.e. would I be able to start my residency in 2008

Yes, it is possible, but it will be tight. You won't get to take off a lot of time to study for the boards, nor will you get any vacations between your rotations. You may also not get to be selective on your rotations. Otherwise, it is possible.

Start basic sciences in Jan 05
Finish basic sciences in April 06
Finish Miami in Aug 06
Take step 1 by Oct 06


81 weeks of clinical,
roughly 1 year and
7 months puts you at May 08

Now that is great if it is possible. Most clinical students you talk to tell you even when you request back to back clinical Ross still gives you a week to a month off between some of the rotations.

Now if you take any time off to study for step 2 or get some scheduling difficulties from the clinical Dept. you won’t finish on time.

I started In Jan and wanted to do the same thing, match in 07. But I realized it is not worth it to rush this process and risk lower scores just to make the match.

I am not sure when you apply but I think the match is in March. I will take a guess and say anywhere from 6 months to a year prior to the match.
