I have heard that the airport is an hour from the school. Is the airport in a heavily forested area? Take a picture on descent and post it.

yes, my interviewer was telling me about the flight in. Apparently, as you make your final approach to the island, all you can see is rain forest. The plane banks towards the mainland, and the airport is situated in a valley of sorts. As you descend, the forest canopy rises up and around you, and you truly feel like you are entering the Heart of Darkness.

It used to be a lot worse before they started cutting down trees to lengthen the runway. You used to be able see the treetops coming really to the plane as you were coming in for a landing. You could always tell the first semesters because they were the ones who were gripping the armrests on the seats with white knuckles and had terrified looks on their faces. There are videos of it on youtube if you look under Melville Hall. Check out the Canefield ones while you're at it.

that was awesome! I didn't realize the runways were long enough for jets to land. Gotta love thrust-reversers!

Watched the descent on You tube; not for the squemish. Dominica has nothing on St. Martin's airport though, watch the video.
