Dominican ATM Charging an extra $5 EC on US Visa Card

So I used my US Debit Card at Dominican National Bank ATM on campus and wanted to take out $60EC, but my receipt showed $65 EC on it. Now, it was my understanding that Dominican Bank does not charge anything, and even if it does, I would rather have them Charge it as a Fee and not as a withdrawal amount add-on.

Anyone else had this issue ?

Uhh, in the US when you go to branch to use an ATM thats not owned by your bank what happens? You get charged like 2 dollars .....consider 5 EC a good deal

Man, FREE is always the best. In US, if you go to a diff bank under same ATM network (e.g. SUM network, they dont charge you). And while $5 EC is not a heavy fee at all, I clearly recall Dominican Bank policy to not charge a fee for using US Card. It says, however, that your home US Bank may charge you a fee.

In my case, the reason I started a banking account at my current bank is that the bank allows Unlimited Free ATM Access worldwide. Now if an international bank charges me a fee, my bank would reimburse me as per their policy in addition to any fee if my bank charges me.

Now tell me if just the Free ATM Worldwide feature is not enough of a reason to open a new account ? For me it was I would much rather use FREE ATM everyday or every 2 days and only have spending cash then have more cash on me to avoid fees.... and on the same thought, would love to be able to use ATMs without fees.

I suppose, once I get Dominican Bank account, I can use their ATM card instead...

Don't be a cheapskate....on Dominica you have to pay for everything, and nothing, I repeat, nothing will be free around there....bc all the locals know how much money comes in from loans

Nevermind, I saw it on the Dominican National Bank website about $5 EC policy. Now, I dont have any issues paying this fee, if it comes down to it.

There are few things that I would not ignore just because how island is or things are... and one of them is Financial stuff. If its not the policy of a financial institution, I would want it clarified.

Now food quality, tenant issues, prices in stores for products, etc are issues I dont have any issues with.
