    American Eagle Baggage

    Advertisements

The packet from Ross says checked baggage should way a combined weight of no more than 70 lbs on American Eagle with neither single baggage over 50 lbs. However, American Airlines website states each checked baggage should not exceed 50 lbs and doesn't mention a combined weight.

Which should we follow? The packet or the AA website.

It is true that you can have two suitcases at 50 lbs each...until you get onto American Eagle and leave the country. At that point you are only allowed 70 lbs combined weight, meaning you'll have to ditch 30 lbs of stuff. That is why the packet only mentions the American Eagle restrictions. Always pack according to the strictest restrictions.

to clarify, if you are flying american airline/american eagle, you can have 2 check-in baggages weighing up to 50lbs EACH. this applies all the way from the states until you land on the island. it is only when you LEAVE the island that the 70lbs total weight limit applies. so when you fly home, you can have 2 baggages, with none weighing over 50lbs, and their combined weight can't be over 70lbs.

They are really sticky about the weight when you are leaving Dominica, I always put my extra heavy stuff in my backpack then as soon as i get to Puerto Rico I dump everything into my suitcases, they dont care about the weight once you leave dominica.
But make sure you dont have more then 70lbs combined when you are leaving dominica cause they make you empty it out.

If you are going straight through from US to Dumpinica with American Airlines/Eagle, you don't have to pick it up.

But on the way back to America, you have to pick up your luggage no matter what so you can go through customs with it; then you recheck it.
