transfer from AUC to Ross

Hi,
Does anyone have any experience in transferring (post Step 1 and I passed) to Ross?

I wanted to know how the Admin and Clinical staff treat you if you are a transfer student. I also wanted to know what you think the chances are of me being accepted to Ross. My step was exactly the average Step 1 score of U.S. students.

Thanks!

Why do you want to?

Seeing as AUC grads can also practice in all 50 states, why do you want to transfer? Transferring from a Caribbean school to a U.S. school is one thing, but transferring between 2 Carib schools (especially when your current institution is one of the "big 4") will raise eyebrows.

From what I last heard, Ross doesn't accept any transfer students period.

First reason: I want to remain in the D.C./Baltimore area and AUC won't let me do that. Ross clinical sites are more plentiful in that area and I want to rotate through KGH.

Tertiary reason: saving about 25K.

I don't see why residencies would care if I transfer between Caribbean schools. Its not an academic issue at all. I did well at AUC and on the Step 1.

You won't be able to remain in the DC/Baltimore area with Ross either. At least - not for all your cores. You know this right?

they will care, it does raise issues because one if the great fears of a program is residents leaving halfway through and if you leave one school to another it shows you cant finish what you start. will it keep you from getting a residency? probably not but it will be a negative on your application at many places, it may keep you from an interview at some (my program included where a transfer from one foreign school to another is like the plague for some reason) and at some it will not matter at all.

the other thing you gotta think of is dealing with two offices for licensing and credentialing for the rest of your life. any time you apply for hospital credentials or state licenses you will have two ridiculuous offices to deal with.

regardless of what school someone goes to advice is to suck it up for cores in whatever poop hole your school sends you to and schedule electives where you actually wana go its only a year
