    Clothing

I've got a couple of clothing related questions. I'm only going to go back once (in May) during my 16 months on the rock so I'm trying to be as efficient as possible when packing:

How many sets of dress shirts and pants are recommended for men for semesters 3 and 4? And can the pants be cotton or is wool required?

Is there any sort of dress code for classes or is it ok to wear tshirts and shorts?

    Is dry cleaning readily available?

Is the weather too hot for jeans?

    Thanks.

U have casual dress codes for some classes in sem 3 and 4 !! Basically during ur 1st 2 semesters, no dress code...So yeah u can go to class with shorts and T-shirts !!

The temp. here is around 85 F on any given day..So that should give u an idea ! I wouldn't recommend Jeans !

Yes there are many laundry places here...Infact some even pick up and deliver ur clothes !

You won't find dry cleaning so wrinkle resistant clothing is best!

One dressy outfit for the whitecoat ceremony... for 3 & 4 sems you'll need some more professional clothes for ICM (intro to clinical med)
Other than that light cool clothes... light is good because it probably won't be as big for the laundry person so they probably won't charge as much... Some charge by the load or by the lb. either way my cotton cargo shorts are both heavy and hot.
Pack a light coat/sweatshirt to keep warm in the study areas...they can be cold... it will be the only time your cold though!

There is (or at least was while I was there) dry cleaning in Roseau....but it took my friend about 6 weeks to get her clothes back....typical time frame for the island though.

You don't need to bring any clothing at all. You can use the paper gowns from the ICM rooms, or just cut holes in a trash bag. Either way you choose to go, you will still look more professional than most people on the island. I personally go with the paper gowns, open in the front. It allows a cool breeze to keep my giblets nice and fresh.

You can wear what you want. Bring like 3 shirts with tie's and a couple pairs of pants. The rest of your stuff should be normal summer time clothing. Bring 2 hooded sweatshirts though. The classrooms get cold. Keep one in your locker and one at home. Also, invest in a couple good pairs of sandals, or "slippers" as my brown friends like to call them. Don't bother bringing shoes, other than the dress shoes for ICM, unless you plan on running or going to the gym.

Don't forget to bring some scrubs or a lab coat. I prefer the lab coat cause you can take the coat off after your anatomy lab is over. The scrubs make you smell like death until you go home and change.

Bring a ton of chonies (underwear). Your butt cheeks will be greased and nothing sucks more than soggy butt cheeks. Also, the laundry people tend to lose that, or take forever in getting your stuff back. It's not something you want to run out of. Going commando in the caribbean leaves you vulnerable to an air strike from a rogue mosquito squadron in the evenings.
