Ross raises tuition by $1000 per semester

New Tuition

I don't know how many students Ross has, but if they have only 3000 current students, that's an increase in tuition of 3 MILLION dollars per semester!

9 Million dollars per year in new income created instantly, and the question is, when is the next 1000 hike in tuition?

Oye, with this tuition increase, I better see some improvements! and not just "continuing providing excellent services..." which could be absolute bull.

Even more, I just love the fact that they made a comparison with the US school counterpart as well as some other carib med school as their justification for the tuition increase.

ugh
ridiculous

the more they whittle away at pretty much the only reason most people choose ross over sgu, the more they'll be seeing their applicants jump ship

They're going to need to make this increase worth it by improving things if they don't want to lose enrollments to sgu

for the rest of us, well there isnt much to do but to go along with this extortion and hope they they do make changes

Thry have been making these comparisons since I was a basic science student back in 2002. thats just what they do to justify sticking it to you once again

Maybe they have an inferiority complex and just want to be more like the folks over on Grenada... pretty short sighted if you ask me... well hopefully this means it will be fixed for the next 3 semesters at least... it better be. Still glad I'm not paying 20k+ /semester Just checked the new tuition matches almost exactly what I would be paying for in-state tuition at U. Illinois SOM...interesting

All the schools raise their tuition, I don't get what the big deal is. This is our last shot, they know that, and they can manipulate that. Do they? Sure, to some degree. But guess what, our crazy anatomy lab doesn't pay for itself and neither do the new buildings, etc. If you guys want to go to some shlt-heap school, then ya they can charge bare bones and not even attract good professors. And then what will you all complain about? Get over it people.

A tuition increase with a reason would be nice. The availability of the anatomy lab is already there with the current tuition, if nothing is improved with the tuition increase, then it is nothing more then for commercial profits. The fact that in their letter to justify the action, their explain is "to continue to invest resources...", "to continue to pursue excellence in education and service..." Thus no additional reasoning for the increase.

I have no issue with the increases, because regardless, I will still be attending school here and so will everyone else, most likely. This is only my student's opinion in the matter.

It's just that everyone is so quick to complain. First of all, DeVry is a business, and they will run this place as such; be happy they haven't REALLY hiked up tuition. We still pay less than the most expensive US schools too, btw. Plus, upkeep out here is a lot, I'm sure. If this increase means some things will be changed in the coming semesters, then great. If it is just done for pure profit, oh well haha. Either way, the people that complain the most on here seem to be forgetting that if it wasn't for Ross, they wouldn't be getting an MD. That's all I'm saying.

meh, my point was that if money wasnt an issue to begin with, i would have taken my business to grenada in a hearbeat and i suspect that mindset isnt exactly in the minority with that either. Until Ross can compete with SGU on things that aren't tuition price (student services, clinical support, student life, faculty resources etc.) then every tuition hike Ross implements will only serve to distance themselves from SGU. And you can't really compare our tuition to US schools. US students recieve far more resources than we can even dream about. They truly get what they pay for. So as long as we're on the road to tuition parity, I would like to see us get at least some of the resources these other schools enjoy. Right now we get the bargain bin bare minimum quick and dirty education that will allow us be quality US MDs, and the expectation many of us had coming into it was that we would be paying the bare minimum tuition as well. If I'm going to pay more, I'm going to expect more. Its that simple.

you mean expect more like new clinical rotations? like the ones in connecticut and miami? newer equipment in the classrooms? a big new gym and student activity buildings? those things don't come for free. i don't know why you think the grass is THAT much greener on sgu's side haha. ask a few of their objective students, and they face their own set of "problems."
