This is why a lot of housing in Dominica has metal bar around windows. Local tends to stake out house that have yet to install them. So when renting an apartment I make sure my place is barred. Plus I usually walk to school on daylight hours and return him by buses at night. There were few occasions where I do walk home at night and during that time I see students who are really careless walking home, talking and laughing over the phone in a middle of a dark road. Most of the crime in the list occurs at night hours for student who walks home.
If you take safety precaution, it isn't likely anything will happen in your 16 weeks on the island. Don't bring fancy equipment if you are scare it might get stolen. Save your money for those when you finish here. I leave all my fancy laptop at home and brought a $250 Netbook.

hahaha...I wish 16 weeks. Are you happy with your netbook? my only complaint is the screen size. Are we allowed to charry a machete? because I probably would. Are the carib locals big people or smaller? I'd be more apt to beat the daylights out of one of them if they tried something, even with a knife. |

I don't get it, a machete is a relatively cumbersome weapon and not much good in a fight Eitherway, same rules apply here as they do in america take what they're asking for, throw it away from you and run in the opposite direction. Yes it sucks but at least you get to go to class tomorrow. Turning a non physical situation into a physical situation will just result in people getting hurt (most likely you). Remember, if there is a blade introduced into a close physical fight, it is pretty likely no one is coming away unscathed and unless you are trained to fight with a blade, theres a good chance you won't be coming out at all. Don't be stupid and escalate these situations, you pay enough to be here, don't throw your life away also. |
