Ok, i already love the car and women here in Miami. But what rotations with what doc. are good? So far I'm hearing good and bad things. So i just want the good guys out there so I can request them. Reminder, 5th semester here guys. thanks.

510 points North Shore ER is great. Avoid Dr. S if possible, the DO. The docs and techs both seem to enjoy teaching and that ER will be the most high-tech you'll ever set foot in until graduation. Probably the best Ross rotation I've ever had!
thanks, any others?
oh c'mon penguin, you have like 10 day worth of rotation in total...just go eat some fish.
I'm back, baby!Hidden Content
Bwahahahahahaha
510 points HI, I agree North Shore is the best. My partner and I did I.V.s, Foleys, drew blood, placed electrodes on patient for ECG.... under the instructions of nurses and techs. JUst let them know you want to do it.
Also, Dr. J.J. Family Prac. at Community Health, South Miami was a favorite. He stays very busy, but he really enjoys teaching students. He helped us with our Fundoscopy techniques.
510 points The only place, that I saw (assisted in) a breast implantation/augmentation Surgery, was North shore.
This was in my whole Medical clinical Curriculum.
Also, the only place I saw Surgeons throw instrumentation at assistants in disdain, was in another OR,...at north shore!
Good times!
Borinquen clinic with Dr. A. He is in internal medicine. He'll let you do a lot of MS-III tasks. You'll see the patient on your own, write the SOAP note or HPI in the chart, write out the prescription (of course with his co signature/supervision), do the focused Physical, and you present the patient to him. He'll then see the patient on his own and quiz you in front of the patient. He's very nice and loves to teach. Any other physician in Borinquen clinic, all you'll do is watch/observe.

510 points I discovered opportunities in all my experiences during my 5th semester.
There are only 5 weeks of clinical visits. The "weeks" are each an average of ONLY 8 hours total. Therefore, the total is 40 hours for the entire semester. worst case 80 hours. big deal. stop complaining in advance by looking for the "best clinical". -There is a vast spectrum of stuff for u to learn at any of the clinical offices/hospitals. The "dramatic" stuff is the least helpful (ER) as you need to practice the one to one patient contact in a VERY quiet clinical setting. a doctor's office is the best. concentrate on personal skills, especially listening. the hpi. practically everyone in the class wrote a terrible paper because they did not know anything about how to do or write an hpi. also concentrate on the physical exam skills. these are the essentials of Medicine which Rossies do not do well. the goal of the assignments is to force you to develop your work ethic and clinical skills. fifth semester is not about having fun driving in your car looking at women. If you request a clinical based on what you think or hear is "best" you missed the entire purpose of clinicals. a doctor needs to function in any clinical environment, not only the ones their buddies suggest. 5th is not the island, figuring out how to beat the system is a tragic flaw. have fun and watch out for the exploding abcesses.
