Thread: american airlines baggage requirements

So i was under the impression with AA we got 2 checked bags no 1 over 50 and total under 70 lbs. However after "confirming" this with AA we actually get 2 under 50 and total 100lbs! I think im in love! Also still get 1 carry on and 1 personal item. best part is since this is international flight no baggage fees either! Be on the island this time tomorrow!

Don't do it... 70 lbs max, my friend started january 09 and when she got to the airport she witnessed customs making a new student trow away some of his belongings to cut down to 70 lbs. Just take 70lbs and have the rest shipped in barrels.

The students who get away with more than 70 pounds are students who fly AA the whole way and coming from an airport that is unfamiliar with Dominican flight policy. It's just not worth trying unless you have someone who is willing to wait at the airport to see if your bags get checked through or if they have to pick up the extra weight and bring it back home for you.
