    No Honor society!

How can it be that the biggest school in the carribean does not have an honors program or at least a club. We have nine thousand different groups which basically all give good food but there are no clubs for the serious students. A club that will require the student to have a good GPA not a good appetite to get in. When I was at the rock I hoped this would happen but it never did maybe someone will pursue this idea. All in all, Ross is an excellent school and prepares you very well for the boards.

Honor societies outside of AOA in the US mean little (and AOA is not as big a deal as their many members make out). SGU has IEA and guess how much that's played into anyone's career?

    many things

An honor society can be very useful. It does not have to be exclusively to have it on your resume. You could have step 1 prep reviews, or whatever. Anything better then feeding your face at different clubs and not doing somthing useful with your time. Remember, medical school is not undergrad anymore.

Why do you need an honor society to do study groups? As you say, its not undergrad anymore. Youre big kids. As for doing something useful with your time, good lord can't that be done without an honor society? Anyway there is nothing wrong with one if you want it but I think really its got little practical use (talk about use of time) and more than most groups tends to focus on face-feeding. And if you are wondering, no, I wasn't even close to being elected to IEA.

    Re:

I know what you mean. It seems as though all there is are Religious and Ethnic clubs. It kind of defeats the purpose of having such a diverse student body if everyone is going to get into their own little groups. We are all here with one thing in common which is mediicine and there should be more clubs to unite people and not seperate them. Although there is AMSA, but man just one educational type of club? Come on. There could be more interest groups like for Cancer, etc.

    good idea

what really took off at sgu is the Emergency medicine club; also there was a surgical club that got started to good sucess I think (after I left). Also the orphanage charity which involved direct student care is really popular. Health fairs for local community under school guidence (through amsa actually) are big. Those are really fun things to consider.

    ...

What difference would an honor society really make? Those days of joining clubs and doing things just so you have something to write on your resume are over. Nobody really cares if you were in an honor society or any other kind of student group. At this point, you can probably tell people that you were the president of the SGA and nobody will ever bother to verify if you really were. These things no longer matter. The clubs at school are just for fun. It gives people something to do to take their mind off of school for a little while and it gives them a chance to hang out with students with similar interests. So just go to the MSA/ISA/BSA/RCSA meetings, feed your face, and be happy with it.

True, but does AMSA have an IMG's best interests in mind? Just curious...
