when i was on the rock, i dove constantly, and saw more sharks then you woudl beleive. noen of them messed with me, most ran away at my sight(yea, i am not good looking, i know). the sharks i saw were hammerheads, lemons, caribbean reef, nurse, and one that was at a distance and appeared to be a great white. (it was huge compared to all the others i had seen, even the hammerheads that were around 20 footers). the ocean is full of sharks. greater then 90% of attacks on humans occur because of humans molesting the animals. leave them alone, they wont bother you. i would not for an instant be afraid of getting in the water on the rock. by the way, the most common shark to attack are nurse sharks, which are considered docile. why? they tend to hang in shallow water,a nd bite when stepped on.

510 points You are in warm, Caribbean waters. There are lots of sharks - all varying in size, shape, and aggressiveness. If you are stupid and swim around with a chunk of bloody meat tied to your ankle at dawn or dusk, you will absolutely invite them to poke around. It is no different than swimming in Hawaii.
As a surfer, you respect the ocean and the landlords and you will be fine. There is no reason to NOT swim or enjoy the ocean out of fear of sharks. Just be aware of your surroundings.
You are way more likely to get hit by a local on a motorbike going 100 mph on the street.
