Thread: AMA resolution on discrimination against IMGs

From the AMA bylaws:

"Our AMA will write to each residency program director reminding them of both federal law and AMA policy with respect to their obligation to consider all qualified applicants regardless of their country of medical education. (Res. 303, I-98)"

Can someone tell me what these federal laws are and how they are circumvented or really don't apply to IMGs, this might apply more to USIMGs but I really haven't researched residency selection laws. Also did not see a previous thread on this.

Why worry so early, finish your medschool first. There is some quota that in theory the director of each program have to make decission on it . For example residency class 2009 will have 50% us grad, 30% IMG, 20 % USIMG.....etc and each program is different and depend on where the residency program (rural, city....etc) and its reputation too. You ceirtainly won't get in Harvard Orthopedic residency even your board score is supper stella, but you will be able to get in in some rural programs because you came from Carib school, but sometime exception happen too. It hard to tell and that why it is a gray zone that lots of law maker have been focus on????, will it benefit you or not if AMA fight for USIMG/IMG, I don't know. I am a member of that organization too, but I doubt it can do much.
