Thread: Cell phone service in Dominica

I just checked the Cable and Wireless website as well as the Digicel website...OMG are you kidding me?!?!? $250 for 800-900 minutes a month? My plan now at AT&T gets 900 minutes for $59. So am I to guess that most students only get prepaid phones and only use maybe 30 minutes a month..since they all seem to be $0.50/minute. Is it just me or are the wireless rates in Dominica the most ridiculous thing ever? Or am I totally missing something...such as the rates are in EC$ eventhough they show no EC? That would bring it down from $250 to about $96..which makes more sense. I think maybe that is it...still a lot, but manageable. Ok I think I just freaked for no reason...hmm..

The wireless rates are actually amazing. You probably misunderstood, and the rates are probably in EC. In any case though, it makes no sense whatsoever to purchase a plan. You buy a phone for 30 EC and then pay as you go. It's incredibly cheap to call to US landlines from it (something line 0.25 EC/minute).

Ok cool. I'm glad the phones themselves are that cheap...I just dropped my $300 phone on the concrete floor and now the screen doesn't work, and I was going to bring it and switch SIM cards but can't now. I guess at that price I don't have to worry much.
