Some flashlights don't have batteries, you just have to crank a lever on the side. You get about 20-30minutes of light for each minute you crank. Check them out at ross (the retail store).

I am a techno-geek and I saw a really cool brand of flashlights that I am going to pick up. Looks they can survive anything.

the best flashlights out there are surefires, the military uses them. Their major drawback is they use a different type of battery than most flashlights but they are soooo bright.

ha ha yep! That is the one that I want. They make this one that has teeth (the executive defender) by the lens. I asked why and the rep said that if provoked, you blind them with the light and them smash them in the face with the serrated lens cover. Brilliant!

I always used a headlamp. Kept my hands free, especially when I rode my bike. Black Diamond makes some good ones.

i have a mini mag LED light and i've only used it a couple of times when the power has gone out and my generator didn't kick in for a few minutes. other than that...don't think i've ever used it because your eyes usually adjust by the time you need it.

you're only going to use the flashlight for the first week or so...once you know your way, you'll never use it! If you have one on your cell phone, thats good enough.

Just get a cheap flashlight or two. If you put a nice one in your luggage, it might "disappear" as anything of value tends to do. But you will need one regularly . . . depending on where you live.
