Stats for those that got MERP'd

We already have a Chances page, but people who already got in/merp'd provide the most up to date and realistic data. I was wondering who got MERP'd as well as do you feel your interview was Extrordinary, Above Ave, Ave, Below, or Poor, this way others will have a better way to see where they stand in terms of getting in, merp'd, or the boot. Thanks.

That is why I started this thread a while back. If you know what kind of people are getting MERP you know anything below that is probably getting denied and anything above that is direct admission.

Been reading this for awhile. I was merped here are my stats.

    cGPA: 2.8 (2 Ds w/o repeat)
    SGPA: 2.7
    MCAT: 26

Have clinical experience. Interview went well. I believe if I would've repeated the Ds I would have gotten direct.

Thought I'd update my status....and also say to anyone reading this thread who is hesitant to apply to US MD and DO schools to IGNORE a lot of the advice you read on the medical school forums IF you have decent stats. I consider myself an underdog--> stats are not great:
-MCAT, 25, with a very low verbal, 6
    -AMCAS GPA 2.89, BCMP: 3.3ish
    -AACOMAS GPA 3.07, science 3.51
but I did well in the pre-reqs, 3.9 and have a good amount of volunteer experience....
    -Shadowing: 160ish hours
    Volunteer: 1000+
I took 2 years off from college and completed 75 hours since returning with a 3.9 GPA overall.

I was accepted to a US DO school and interviewed at a US MD school. I have not heard back from 10 schools.

I wish I would have read this type of post a year or 2 ago. Hope this helps someone in a similar position who is wondering what they should do. Bottom line = apply once, apply broadly, apply to schools you don't think you have a shot at getting in (bc a kid on SDN said you have no shot...they have no idea, they are NOT an ADCOM at that school) - maybe don't apply to ivy league schools....

You don't know who is reviewing your application and see's something in you. It's cheaper to apply very broadly 1 year than 3 years of applying to a few schools--> think about 1 year less salary every yr you sit out, finding stuff to do while not in med school, etc.

Anyway, take it for what it's worth. In my experience this is the advice I would have liked to follow. Good luck!

I agree with your overall sentiment, but i do have to ask if you are an URM? because, frankly, with your MCAT, esp the VR, i'm surprised you go t an IV from an MD school...

I'm wondering if Ross will still MERP someone with below 3.0 GPA but above 30 on MCAT....Because I think that's where I'll be standing in about 5-6 months.

Yes, Ross will MERP someone with a low GPA and MCAT score.

I have been MERP'd...with a 2.9 GPA and a 19 MCAT. So, how does one get conditionally accepted into Ross with such scores? This is how...

    1. Strong leadership experience (I was captain of some extracurricular teams, helped start an organization, gave a lecture on leadership in the workplace, etc.).
    2. Strong real-world work experience.
    3. Years of clinical experience (I've volunteered for four years at a hospice and worked for seven years at a job that involved providing in-home care to Mentally Retarded/Developmentally Disabled individuals).
    4. Good letters of recommendation.
    5. Demonstrated ability to do graduate-level course-work (I have an MBA).
    5. A strong interview. Make sure you give good reasons (not excuses) for why you think your grades were sub-par. Ask the interviewer lots of questions (it helps if you write down a list and take it with you to the interview) and demonstrate how your life experiences will contribute to you being a good doctor. I can't over-emphasize enough the necessity of preparing yourself for the interview. Go over possible interview questions in your head and rehearse answering them, especially the difficult one about why your grades and/or MCAT score were low. Don't blame others for your failings...take responsibility for your actions and own up to your failures...then, be positive by reflecting to the interviewer about what you could have done and what you currently can do to achieve academic success.

    Good luck!
