-MCAT, 25, with a very low verbal, 6
-AMCAS GPA 2.89, BCMP: 3.3ish
-AACOMAS GPA 3.07, science 3.51
but I did well in the pre-reqs, 3.9 and have a good amount of volunteer experience....
-Shadowing: 160ish hours
Volunteer: 1000+
I took 2 years off from college and completed 75 hours since returning with a 3.9 GPA overall.
I was accepted to a US DO school and interviewed at a US MD school. I have not heard back from 10 schools.
I wish I would have read this type of post a year or 2 ago. Hope this helps someone in a similar position who is wondering what they should do. Bottom line = apply once, apply broadly, apply to schools you don't think you have a shot at getting in (bc a kid on SDN said you have no shot...they have no idea, they are NOT an ADCOM at that school) - maybe don't apply to ivy league schools....
You don't know who is reviewing your application and see's something in you. It's cheaper to apply very broadly 1 year than 3 years of applying to a few schools--> think about 1 year less salary every yr you sit out, finding stuff to do while not in med school, etc.
Anyway, take it for what it's worth. In my experience this is the advice I would have liked to follow. Good luck!
I agree with your overall sentiment, but i do have to ask if you are an URM? because, frankly, with your MCAT, esp the VR, i'm surprised you go t an IV from an MD school...
