    Old MERPers!!

I was wondering if anyone one on the island rite now is an old MERPer. But didn't pass the MERP program but was still able to go to the island.
I'm currently a MERP student and having difficulty passing the program. I was wondering if anyone who was once in my shoe can give me some insight on what to do to get to the island this September 08. Thanks

    Geesh!

Geesh!, what happen? Is the MERP program just really hard or did you just party too much? I am just asking because I will be "in your shoes" starting July 28th!

My suggestion would be to study like you never had before! Stay up all night if it takes it! You can do it!

I would think you have to do a gut check and figure out why you are not passing MERP.

If you can't skate, your not going to make it in the NHL.

I thought Merp was a pre-req. to get to the island. It shows that you can handle the med. schools workload. I thought, if you are not passing it, you do not get in. Am I missing something?

I'm an Old Merper.. (Apr 05) Currently starting my 4th year.... MERP is challenging. You need to study hard (I had no good study technique until I had Physio Quizzes everyday from Dr. Lot...i!!!!!!!) So like people say study hard. If you fail MERP you can't go on to the island.. they won't let you.. but focus and you will be fine. take advantage of the TA sessions.. and talk to the professors. good luck

MERP is not a prereq to getting to the island. If you are not accepted to Ross but you're not that far down the pile, they may offer you MERP. MERP is not acceptance to Ross and it states that in the letter they send to all MERP students. If a student passes MERP they are offered admission to Ross. If you do not pass MERP then you are not offered admission to Ross, even if it is 0.1 points.

Hey, I'm a former MERP student. I thought MERP was hard... and i struggled... I had a very rocky start in MERP... i did really bad on the first exam... however... i pulled it together and re-evaluated the way i studied... give yourself ample time to study the material! Towards the end I ended up doing much better! --Since then... Not only did i do extremely well on the island (only b/c i worked my butt off) but i've also just found out that I've passed the USMLE step I and am waiting to begin rotations! So there is light at the end of the tunnel... hang in there!

but if you can't pass MERP... look at it this way... you've just saved yourself a lot of money not going to the island! Work your butt off... but if it's not meant to be... it's not... not everyone is meant to be a doctor! But if your heart is in the right place and you're resilient, you'll make it through! Good luck!!
