Hi,
I'm bringing my printer down with me. Was wondering if anyone who has also brought down there printer could tell me how many ink cartridges you go through in a semester?
Thanks for the help!

674 points You're gonna want at least 6 to be sure. There is a LOT of printing!

510 points That really depends on you. I also brought my printer and am glad I did but I will have several cartridges left over when I leave next month. You have a quota at the library for printing, which I took advantage of. But when you want something in color or don't want to wait if the library is backed up, it's great to have your own printer. I probably didn't go through more than two in a semester at the most, but I would bring more just in case. There is nowhere to buy them down here and you can always take back extras or sell them before you leave. So, yeah, six is a lot but at least you'd be sure you didn't run out.
510 points That is about how many I anticipate I will use this semester. I got the Epson C88 from the bookstore and it drinks the ink.
I use the library printing allowance for as much as I can. For color and convenience, I occasionally use my color printer.
Just FYI: You get a $14 print quota each week reset each Sunday morning. It used to be $0.10 a page, but now I think you can print double side for only $0.05, but don't quote me on that. Basically, most departments give you packets, so you don't have to print, but for those that don't (Anatomy and DPS usually), the $14 should easily cover any printing you have. You don't actually exchange any money, it is just a countdown on your account each time you print.
510 points Bring a cheap laserjet printer, you can get some for $80, they can print 2000-4000 without changing the cartridge, so you will never need to worry about bringing extra cartridges, just replace it every 1-2 semesters. Inkjets waste ink and you don't save by buying a cheaper printer that costs hundreds in cartridges.
