Does anyone have any advice about how to solicit a research position for a year-off between graduating and residency? I.e. just randomly email researchers or are there hospitals/centers which take Ross grads for this purpose? Thanks for any advice!

I have been involved in clinical trials/medical research for the past 8 years, here is what I would do:
1. Contact the clinical research office at the hospital.
2. Set up an appointment with one of the primary investigators.
3. Ask about duties etc.
Most studies are: cardiovascular, sleep, pain and CNS, and if you live by a larger city you maybe able to work at a Phase I clinic.
Basically, they will add your name to the FDA Form 1572 as a sub-investigator and you will most likely see patients and conduct H&P's, relay data with the study coordinators, etc.
These studies are extremely lucrative for the physicians and hospitals, given the current state of insurance, they often rely on these to supplement income. They would be more than happy to have the additional manpower. Your compensation is well, up to your negotiating skills.
Feel free to PM if you have any questions, if there is anything I know it's research.
PS - now tell Ross to accept this old man!
