Anything is possible
You can be anything if you put your mind to it. You may have to take the longer route in some cases, but you will eventually get there. The more competitive, the better scores you'd better have. I would say everything you listed is possible but you have to do well on Step 1 and here at Ross. Don't limit yourself just because you are at Ross.

Surgey
With current trends in health care reimbusment, surgery has become a pretty easy field to get into (look at the 2004 match). As far as the subsequent fellowship opprtunities you refer to, It all depends on how you do during your general surgey residency.

What?
Look at the 2004 match?? Well, considering surg this year was more competitive than it has been for prolly the last 5 years or more, I don't know where that statement came from.
This year, there were 377 spots left after the match, only 2 of which were categorical general surgery spots. And from what I heard, the other 375 preliminary spots (which few people ever want prior to having to scramble) were scrambled and taken in a matter of just a couple of hours. The new 80-hr work week restrictions are making surgery look much more appealing to some. Yes, those goals are attainable coming from the Carib, and surgery is certainly reachable if you make good board scores. GenSurg, Neuro, and Ortho are categorical spots that you will apply to in the Match. Trauma and CT are fellowships you will apply to for after your gensurg residency (except for the very rare and highly sought-after combined CT program out there). CT is usually 2-3 years, while trauma I believe is 1 yr at most places. |

re
I'll clarify my last statement.
I read an article the other day by someone, maybe those who run the match. Anyways. In total, I think there was close to 20,000 people who matched this year into residencies. As a result many more of the easier residencies became more competitive and very few spots went unfilled. Surgery became more competitive. |
