I also know a few people who has started at a new medical school without informing the school that they were dismissed, is there anyway the school can find out?

Raphael01, out of curiosity, what caused u to be dismissed or anyone to be dismissed? Is it GPA, step 1 performance??????

What suggestions could u give on how not to be dismissed? Did u party alot, not study as much, etc.......

If so, you might want to look on ways to improve the things that got u dismissed in the first place before transferring to another school!

This is not a good idea at all...If you are not caught immediately, your past will come back to haunt you at some time in the future, and it will look a lot worse than if you just admitted that you transferred schools. It is not worth the risk whatsoever.

Are you facing, or have you already faces dismissal?

The school will found out eventually. They will need a Dean's letter for residency application and the gap in time will have to be accounted for while they were at the other school. There are also ways schools could find out such as looking at why they took out loans, if they have your SS# they can look up your credit report. More schools may start really looking at credit reports with the credit crunch, to make sure students can qualify for private loans to pay for thier education. No use admitting someone who can't get approved for loans.

Trying to hide this info is a bad idea in general. There are enough schools that will take people with a dismissal, so it makes it an unnecessary risk to lie. If you read the fine print, some schools have clauses that misrepresentation of information on application is grounds for dismissal.

No, I am not at this situation, I couldn't help reading this thread and just sparked my curiosity.

What do you mean by caught?

I am sorry I wasn't able to follow. What you mean by you need a Dean's letter and need to explain yourself for the gap in time? You could simply say you were doing something else. Like myself I took some time off after undergrad.

Also, I understand that we file for federal aid everything, but what we take out and all isn't that confidential information? I understand that the school has our SSN# but without our full permission are they really allowed to do that?

I mean I honestly fear this whole thing. Because here anything could happen, there's not a single semester where you are safe, especially when none of the promotion policies are written on stone.

Also, I agree that hiding such information is bad idea, but telling also hinders you from residency placement doesn't it? I mean they will grill the person, and possibly not get into them?

Would the conditions change if someone is willing to start fresh and yet not mention their previous attendance?

These are just questions and concerns I have because I see so many people getting dismissed, and they opt for AUA or SMU, and with those schools all they need is that if Ross accepted them then they accept you.

When I was a 4th-semester at Ross I met a guy who was dismissed from a US med school for failing Step 1 three times. He transferred to Ross and had to BMSI for a semester. He finally passed Step 1 on the fourth try.

He landed a good residency spot.

no, stafford loan info IS disclosed to the schools- they need to know when you hit your aggregate max and the DOE will let them know- if you did not disclose this info (most schools ask in their application if you attended med school before), then it could be grounds for dismissal.

i think blatantly lying on your application will hinder your ability to land a residency placement more so than transferring to another school...
