This takes some research for you, let's say you want to practice in NY, you go to the medical board of NY website and find out the schools that NY takes for a license, you will need to go on a state by state basis unless AUA specifically lists this information on their website. You can also see all the schools that NY accepts for a license, I don't know if AUA is there, you need to check. Good luck.

Is there any hope for me to still go to a school that has licensure in all 50 states? Also, is it possible to get a licensure in Texas? I checked the AUA website, and they talk about New York and 5 other states that have strict international requirements. I don't understand enough about this. Thank you, papaya, for your quick response. It really does help.

You can get texas licensure at any school though not directly after graduation . The way around Texas after graduating from a non approved carib school is to be licensed in one state for three years , then apply for a texas license .

Texas and Pennsylvania are one of the toughest states for licensing, but like firefighter said, practice somewhere for 3yrs and you can then practice in the tougher states like texas.
So you need to get 1) ACGME rotations/residency 2) Take and pass the board certification test in your speciality 3) Practice in a state that approves AUA for 3yrs then you can move to Texas. Spend some time on the Texas medical boards website, it has a ton of information. Physician Applicants You can try applying to St. George's, that may be an option, but you need to present a really strong case. Make a well informed decision by reading everything you can on the website. |

Whatever you do, you will have a lot to explain once you are in residency interviews... it doesn't look good being dismissed at all. I'm sorry to tell you this, but it's the truth. Ross usually doesn't dismiss a student unless they failed more then once... that itself will need alot of explaining to do. If there is a chance at remaining at Ross, I would try for that.
Like everyone who have posted before me, try to evaluate what went wrong and how you can fix it. Maybe write a letter or call Dr. [edited for names; not permitted by tos] .. he seems very nice and willing to answer and be honest with students... Again, being "dimissed" from school will be on your record and will limit your career. GL Adipose Last edited by stephew; 01-19-2008 at 07:17 PM. |

realistic expectations
ok ..be realistic here , competitive residencies may be out of the question - in that sense a dismissed student may be limited .
However , once he transfers and pass his boards and graduates as an MD , he will have a career . It also helps tremedously that he is most likley a US citizens . Even foreign visa students from china etc who fail the boards several times end up matching in a us residency .

Thank you guys for the positive outlook. This is really difficult for me because I'm sitting all alone in my apartment in Dominica writing to other Medical Schools and trying to figure out what to do. I keep reading a lot of doomsaying from friends, but you guys are the only people telling me to fight for my dreams and to just keep on going.
I'm really glad that you guys are telling me that my career isn't over. I understand that I was dismissed and that my career will be shortchanged a lot and I'll have difficulties. But the fact that I can still possibly work in the state that I want, is the greatest news I have ever been given. Thank you. I'm dealing with a lot of my own problems, and you guys have been really helpful. If you have any advice, please continue to give it. I really, really appreciate from the bottom of my heart. |
