Lost luggage, delayed flights, getting bumped from flights...I don't think it matters if you fly with Liat or AA. Both are bad and I think it is the airport/workers in Dominica, not necessarily the airlines. I've flown with both and not once did I ever get to my destination without any problems. I have sent angry letters to AA and been compensated with airline miles, so maybe AA is a bit better.

The compensation is what makes AA better than Liat. At least they will give you something for their screw up!

Last Sept., my daughter got stuck in San Juan when Liat got there late and Delta charged an extra $500 to change her ticket for the next day, plus she had to pay over $200 for a hotel near the airport. She's now stuck in Antigua because Liat was late yesterday leaving San Juan and this morning there aren't enough cabs at 3 am to get everyone to the airport in Antigua, so she missed the 6 am flight. When she got there, Liat had no ETA on the 10am flight. Bags nowhere in sight since yesterday, and given past experience, probably not for a week. We met some people on Dominica from the "Pirates of the Caribbean" crew whose bags were lost for over a month - the bags went to India instead of the West Indies. Just know what to expect and go with the flow, leave lots of time, be nice, and practice stress management.

Liatt just lost out reps bags with all of the white coats and dissection kits in it! They say it's supposed to come in anytime form now until Monday. Hopefully it will get to Dominica soon other wise more people than just our rep will be unhappy!

Our rep just got her bag at RUH. She found it there today after speaking with Liat and being told it's not on the island and won't be for several days.

in my day, the best flighst would be out of canefield an air martinique and guadalupe, d they stll have those? leather seats and a nice french meal were included on the short flight! we would then connect on air france to miami or american eagle to PR. amazingly AE was never late out of martinique.
also, we would take the ferry from dominica to martinque or guadalupe and then an eagle flight to PR. we didnt mind if we had to stay a night in martinique, there was a great place by the airport that sold barbeque steak and lobster right off the road. the best part of being at ross was teh flight out, i dont think i ever had a problem. if i couldnt get a flight, i just hopped on the ferry, i recommend u gusy do the same!

Can't get worse than LIAT
I know it was a hurricane, but I doubt AA ever did anything like this:
I bought tickets thru Liat to go to St Maarten from Dominica, unfortunately the flight was for the day before Hurricane Dean hit (I had bought these tickets in June). I spent all day at Melville airport being told my flight was delayed, at 6pm they cancelled my flight, AND....earlier they had sent my luggage to St. Maarten! They then gave all tourists hotel vouchers for Fort Young.........BUT refused to give me one because I am a student with "somewhere to stay". All the employees then left. I got back to my empty apartment just in time for the power and water to go out The day after Hurricane Dean I went back to Melville and fought like an animal to get a flight out. I got to Antigua late in the afternoon and waited until that night for my flight out to St Maarten BUT.....surprise! Liat overbooked my plane for an entire cricket team and left all of the original passengers hanging. The Liat agent in Antigua told us "you all don't understand, they have a match to get to tomorrow". That's when my patience had run out, and I gave her some four lettered "advice" on the priority of sporting activities. The next day, all day in Antigua airport, having to fight over seats as the flights were so overbooked. Liat was literally announcing flights at a gate # last second and everyone had to run to make a line. I made it but I know others didn't. AND when it comes to customer privacy, lol......at Melville, Liat gave me my luggage receipt stickers stapled to the back of a list of about 30 Ross students with DOB's & SS #'s. |
