Miami Housing - Please reply...

Hello,

I noticed a lot of 5th Semester students offering advice on the board recently.

Myself, and possible roomates and classmates would really appreciate some phone numbers for housing that has worked for you in Miami (other than the ancient housing list that we all have).

Any complexes with multiple single suites? Furnished?
Any 2Bedroom, 2Washroom aparments? Furnished?
Less than 6 month lease terms?

You don't know how much of help you guys can be by providing us with some leads for this during the hectic 4th Semester.

Thank you so much in advance.

Sincerely,

-Incog.

Miami Housing

Incognito,

I've noticed several posting for Ross housing on the Ross Housing forum which can be accessed by going to the updated Ross-Miami website at http://www.rossmiami.com

I'm not sure what you mean by "ancient" housing list. I know quite a few students who found their housing from contacts made from that list. I looked at the list, e-mailed and called a few lanlords, and reserved my apartment the same weekend.

I also tried searching on RENTAL websites, but very few apartments were available for short term rentals, even fewer were furnished.

Dr. Sharma's housing guide

Dr. Sharma has put together a housing guide, which is a collection of 60-some places to stay. I believe he obtained the information by survey of students, so there is info re. what is included, such as phone, internet, utilities, etc. Specific rent prices and contact information are also listed. The filesize does not allow me to attach it here, so if you want it, p/m me with your private email address and request it.

The impression I am getting is that it is necessary to have a car there, so I am busy getting my daughter's car tuned up and ready to go for her.

need a car

You must have a car..you can split one with your partner, but you must have one...I don't think many people rent b/c it becomes very expensive (especially if you are under 24).

cars

singer, if you dont have a car, you are screwed in miami. i knew people who tried to take the buses(which have sucky schedules and transfers). some took up to 4 hours to get anywhere, with multiple transfers, and lareg waits at stops for buses to where they want to go.

Univ. Of Miami

The univ. maintains a pretty good off campus housing database on the net. I don't have the site anymore but it should be easy enough to find from their main page. That's how I found my place.

On the car

You do not need a car in Miami. My experience is proof you do not. I spent $350 so far on Taxi plus the Rail line and bus. Taxi service is great here just like Manhattan. A car down here is a darn nusiance, too many cars here, the roads are jambed up. Sure you can rent a car down here. I know for a fact it costs in the neighborhood of 1250+ But why. Those taxis arrive in minutes and take you anywhere you want to go, just like Manhattan, so why monkey around with a car?

rental car

Yes, you can rent a car here and some students do so. It doesn't cost $1250 - a friend of mine is paying $500 per month.

The sites a spread out, so even if you live next door to one site, another will be in a different part of town.
