If you are worried, then get the I-131 so that you have paperwork to prove that you are temporarily out of the country for schooling. If you do a little research on the site, lots of people talk about this issue. We are getting the visa just to be on the safe side. Call ins directly or Ross might have immigration information.

Study Strategies
Hey guys,
Anybody have any friends on the island? Some 5th semesters were explaining to me that the amount of material covered in 1st and 2nd semesters is overwhelming...lots of students wind up MediaSiting the lectures instead of going to actual lectures in order to give urself more time to study. This is my BIGGEST concern going to the island in May, and I actually have an idea as to how we could approach the problem. We just assign people to transcribe the lectures (we'll switch it around so we don't tire anybody out) and set up an email list so that anyone who is contributing will receive a copy of the transcription. lemme know what u guys think. |

FirstAid,
The beauty of a service like MediaSite is that it is accessible to every student at any time for any length of time. I will be starting in May as well, and I'm looking forward to using MediaSite almost exclusively. I've used a similar tool in a post-bacc program and found it very helpful - much more than actually going to class, but I still went to class most of the time. You are right about the quantity of material being close to overwhelming, but I assure you it's manageable. We will all figure out our own best and most efficient ways of learning, but I think actually transcribing lectures might decrease actual time for studying/learning. Study groups definitely work very well for some people especially if they have similar learning styles. Other people excel with independent memorization and repetition. Try not to let the thought of the amount of material grow too much before you even start. You're going to do great. We're all in the same boat. See you in May. |

Trust me, you do NOT want to be using mediasite exclusively. Before landing on the rock, I had the same mentality, then found out that mediasite was only accessible on campus (unless you're in PACE). So, you might as well attend lecture and get the most out of the fortune you're spending.

Hey guys starting Ross U in May. Looking forward to seeing you all there.
Thx Jcu for the advice. I was also thinking of using mediasite exclusively but now I would like to attend the lectures and use mediasite for support. Jcu do you guys get to ask questions during lectures or are the professors busy reading from the slides?? How are the prof office hours??? |

Some of the professors are very open to questions during lecture. BUT, keep in mind, a LOT of material has to be covered in an hour or two of lecture (the equivalent of at least a hundred slides depending on how much time is allotted). Also keep in mind, if you ask a ... stupid question (I know I know - there really is no such thing as a stupid question, blah blah), you will garner everyone's hatred for wasting their time, haha. So, it's always best to seek out a professor's assistance after hours. The great thing about Ross professors is that their only role is to teach; they don't have research or other projects going about. Personally, I find Peer Tutoring sessions most helpful because they're students just like us and will most likely give you the real deal as to what's up. Hope that helps.
