I chose ross over sgu. got into both, ross's program is about 10 months shorter and costs less. worked out for me. started in jan 2001 and grad may 2004. matched in surgery. now am a PGY 4
thats awesome!
good for you![]()
If you want to do something, then you will find a way.
If you want to do nothing, then you will find an excuse.

510 points Congratulations on your success. Things at Ross have changed since you graduated. The OP should check the numerous threads about the problems with the clinical department. Here's one http://www.valuemd.com/ross-universi...ill-issue.html There seems to be a shortage of some cores. Students are graduating late and some have even missed the match.
Cavalletti, If you are going to post the link to the 'bad' thread you should bother to post the newer ones showing how Ross has secured more sites in other states. I'm not saying the situation is 'fixed' but that you should be fair because it appears they are trying.

510 points Aggiemd2b....I agree that they "are trying" however, if it was my education on the line "trying" wouldn't be enough. I do think that the problem will be fixed, will it be in time for the OP to complete clincals? I wouldn't want to take that chance when there are other viable options (schools).
It comes down to if you have time/money that you are willing to spend. As others have said, the SGU clinical experience may be a little better, and as far as matching goes between the two, there is not much of a difference.

im an attending, graduated from ross. goto SGU, ross is nowhere near as good as far as education, standards, and clinical rotations. if u didnt get into SGU, that would be one thing, but if you got in, take it without even looking back.

49 points thanks guys for the responses. My immediate concern is money. I know that graduating from sgu will put me in at slightly above 250k whereas attending ross may end up being cheaper. (how much cheaper please inform me on this). I am guessing 190-200k? Thats big money if you consider interest as well.
I know that SGU is rocking in terms of a solid education. Basic sciences are great, clinical sites and availability is great also, althuogh I hear that they dont do as good of a job preparing you for step 2 as step 1 because they dont have required step 2 shelf exams.
I should also add that I am from Texas and so ACGME hospitals are a must and I want ot graduate in a timely manner. Preferably match in '11 but I know that is tough so 12 would be fine too i guess.
