Rotations at sites other than Ross-affiliated hospitals

I don't even know what search terms to use to find any info about applying to other hospitals for rotations. If anyone has any input or advice, help me out.

Why do you want to do rotations at hospitals not affiliated with Ross? Have you run into scheduling problems?

I did two sub-I's at Ross non affiliated hospitals I just went to their web site and filled out an application, called the school, had my advisor send over a letter of good standing, sent in my records of immunization, and applied to albany for permission... which they always approve. Each rotation you apply for costs you $10 because that is what albany charges you for permission. It really wasnt hard at all... the only thing that was fussy was making sure the fax from the school was actually sent to the hospital or if it was actually received. If you have any other questions feel free to PM me. When my roommate applied for a non affiliate position, in addition to the above, they also required a copy of our malpractice coverage from the school which was not a problem. Good Luck!!!

yea, i wanted to know about core rotations. I have family involved with two hospitals in NY and NJ and I wanted to see if there was a chance i could learn beside them. Ive heard that theres a bunch of hoops to jump through, i just need to know who and what to ask.

It can be done with cores. You just have to plan it out carefully meaning the rotations need to happen in the correct facility (e.g. ACGME approved with a residency program in the core your are going to take). For some State licensure requirements there are additional requirements such as the presence of an ACGME family practice residency residency operating within the facility. Your best bet is to call the State Medical Boards in the States you want to do residency and where you want to eventually get an unrestricted license in after residency. Each State has specific requirements so put the time in and do the research cause the time you'll put into researching the rules is worth your lifetime career. Look a few earlier posts back where I posted the California Medical Board (a very strict medical board) rules on a thread regarding this.
