2008 Residency Interview Thread

I guess we should get this going so we can keep track of how things are going... i submitted my app for OB/GYN last wednesday, and today i got an interview invite! I couldn't believe it, they don't even have all my documents yet. Everyone else, post when you get interviews and perhaps the moderators can make this post a sticky. Good Luck to all!

Congrats on your invite. Did you receive it from a community or university program? I don't knwo much about the field of OB, but is it worth going the extra effort for a university spot considering the low number of folks doing fellowships?

Ob/Gyn fellowships are *quite* competitive, such as maternal fetal medicine and the reproductive fellowships where you have good hours with no call and basically run a fertility clinic. I don't know why Cuando2 says that there is a low number of people doing ob/gyn fellowships, maybe they mean that there is a small number of fellowships, there are ALWAYS more applicants than spots for ob/gyn fellowships, they are highly competitive, a university program helps big time. Some ob/gyn residents didn't get maternal/fetal or fertility/reproduction, and had to do research for 2-3 years to then apply again. Ob/Gyn is a great career choice, i.e. you get to see patients on the floors, in clinics, and in surgery i.e. C-Section, and you can even do gynecologic surgery, its popularity fluctuates, but I bet it will be competitive this year again. Cuando is very very mistaken about the competitivenss of ob/gyn fellowships.

Cuando,

I have actually recieved a second invite since my first post. One interview at a community program and one at a university program. I don't really think i am interested in fellowship right now, i kinda want to be done with the "training" part of my life and get back to the real world... not sure why everyone is being so harsh to you, but i appreciate the feedback. Dancer, thanks for the response. Yeah, I like the combination of surgery/primary care that OB/GYN offers, and it was very competetive last year with only 6 spots remaining in the scramble, so i am happy to be getting the invites! Hopefully i will be happy come match time!

Spots remaining in the scramble has nothing to do with competitiveness of a specialty. Regardless, congrats on the interviews and best of luck.
