    people dismissed and transferring

    Advertisements

I heard a lot of people were dismissed this past break and I was wondering where they are all going. I myself was dismissed and I am looking into transferring to another school but I need information on which schools have the best chance of getting into and which schools people know for a fact other dismissed ross students have gone to. I know about AUA but what about schools like AUC or IAU or Saba or any others? I appreciate the information. Also I heard something about appealing to the president. Does anyone know if that is possible and if it has ever been successful? Thanks

I'm a Ross student about to head into clinical years. Highly recommend looking at value schools..i.e. MUA, Saba, etc. My understanding at this point is that there's isn't much difference between any of those schools and Ross except that you'll pay more money. Ross may be more "recognized" in some NY hospitals and some NJ hospitals..but if you step out of that region, Ross doesn't have any more of a recognition over AUC, or Saba, or SGU. So is the extra $10K really worth it? IMO its not! Also, having that recognition in the NY area isn't going to help you when you're applying for residency to university affiliated hospitals (cornell, columbia, nyu). The only university that gives preference (of the slighest sort) to Ross grads is UMDNJ. Outside of that, having that green Ross badge isn't going to help. Also, we lost some damn good profs like Dr B (micro) recently. So, Ross is NOT worth it! Had I known all this before, I would've accepted my acceptance to a DO school I got into or perhaps re-applied to US MD schools. Just my $.02

Suggestion on where to transfer ...

I am currently a Saint Matthew's University 1st semester student. I did MERP last semester-- was offered admission to Ross but ultimately enrolled at SMU.

Oner person wrote "You have to be naive" to go to any other school beside the big 3. Well, I have no regrets whatsoever coming to Grand Cayman. Why you ask I decided to which gears?

I was in Miami and was able to talk to both Ross 5th semesters and SMU 5th semesters. A lot of Rossies talked bad about the island and administration. Reading stuff on here like library squatters and it being confirmed by others-- made me think. And the huge class size was not very appealing. Oh yeah, the wannabe thugs too. Just kidding.

There pretty much isn't any cons to SMU except for it does not have California. And maybe the cost of living. Lack of federal loans is balanced out by its cheaper tuition.

The professors are great. The anatomy professor knows his stuff and teaches it well. He is an orthopedic surgeon in China and has a pHD from Duke. There is many places to eat here in Grand Cayman. Tonight we are gonna try the all you can eat lobster at Decker's. About 30 dollars or so. A little pricey, but you only live once (cliche I know).

The histo professor is awesome too. All great except biostats. The overall feeling I get from here after one week and after orientation is that the administration cares. This is what I researched before I decided to switch gears and I can confirm this now.

Plus, we get Kaplan materials (books, computer access to Qbank, etc) starting 1st semester. This was another plus that persuaded me to go SMU vs. Ross.

Again, I would not hesitate to recommend SMU to friends and family. Except if you really want to practice in California, which SMU does not have yet. Good luck to everyone.

BTW, A lot of Rossies transfer here from Ross.

Are you able to borrow enough through private loans?

i doubt good carib schools like SGU, AUC and SABA will accept a failure. unles you are a US school failure or u have A's and high B's in all other subjects except the one u failed. i hope ppl who are applying for the next cycle can learn some leason but then again ppl are naive. atleast i did learn something as i didnt even bother applying to Ross. nywayz i think u can still transfer to SMU, AUA and Mua-nevis or schools like st. james, xavier, and st. estuisa (spell?)
Ever tried? Ever failed? No problem. Try again. Fail again. Fail better.

    Not True

It is false to say that Ross University is known only in New Jersey. From the resident side of things I have seen this not to be true on the West Coast as well. The "big three" are relatively equal but the others are at a HUGE disadvantage (like no chance).

However, its common for students at the others schools to say "it doesn't matter" to make everybody feel better.

    Mitch is right.

You are a FOOL if you go to AUA or SMU instead of Ross, SGU or AUC.

The residency placement lists are proof of this.

Ross will not randomly dismiss students. If you fail 1-2 classes in any semester, you MUST repeat the semester. If you fail 3 or more classes in any semester OR you fail any class while repeating a semester, Ross academically dismisses you.

    Dumbest. Post. Ever.

all five school have student matching in fields they desire, whats your point?

I can't believe carib students have the audacity to have an attitude that they go to a 'better' school. You are a 'fool' like the rest of us who couldn't get into a US school. Buy hey, whatever helps you sleep at night.
