Rife with cheaters

A contingent of Ross students has further demonstrated their unsuitability for the medical profession today.

Now please don't misread my message. The majority of the people I run into at Ross are honorable students and are working hard and fairly toward their goal of becoming doctors, but there is a visible minority of selfish, immature and incompetent individuals who mar the experience for the rest of us (regarding selfish people, see my post about study space squatters for example).

Today was our lab practical exam. Because of understandable limitations of time and resources, the anatomy staff does not change the lab setup after each group. This gives the less honorable students in our midst who go through the test early the opportunity to cheat by telling their friends what is being asked on the exam.

According to people around campus, this sort of cheating happened today. Many people were seen discussing the content of the test around campus and phoning the answers to their friends.

What advantage people get by telling their friends what the answers are is beyond me. It only hurts the divulgers, not to mention the rest of us, because someone else scores higher than them as a result. But, alas, it is probably part of some sort of tit-for-tat among those people.

My message for the cheater scum here is the same as it is for the squatters. There is a price for everything.

Thankfully, the USMLE will be the great equalizer. Hopefully that will weed out the cheaters before their incompetence kills an innocent patient.

Oh and by the way, if I ever see anyone cheating I will turn them in a heartbeat!

Its a good thing the grading scale isn't based on a bell-shaped curve.

A similar thing happened to our class last semester only they were seen by some 3rd semester kids who said they couldn't ID the cheaters. If you know who they are= turn them in. I wish I would have seen those who cheated last semester. I would have ID'd them all. In public. It gave the rest of us who study hard and play by the rules a bad name. The bight side is that this will catch up to them sooner or later. The USMLE will bite them in the *** if the shelves don't first.
Its not like your in a fox hole with these losers. just keep your head in the books and all will work out.

How true. My only consoaltion is that the majority of people are honorable.

I just can't stand cheaters. I saw them in my premed classes and now they are here in med school. I thought the cheaters would be weeded out by now.

I pray I will have the chance to turn a cheater in. It would make me so happy to send one of those posers packing.

I agree... don't see the point in all this cheating since it doesn't help anyone in the long run. Hell, the most I ever say to my boyfriend after a lab exam is, "I should've studied more," or, "YAY! It's over!"

The good thing is they only shoot themselves in the foot. You have to learn the material for the boards. If you keep putting off learning it, the volume you need to cram in your brain grows, as the time you have to cram it in there shrinks. Too bad for them. The only person you need to compete with is yourself. G

What is the school policy concerning cheaters? Would they be expelled?

I'm not 100% sure of the process because aparently no one specifically has been accused of cheating as Ross in awhile but if accused they go to the Honor Council and if found guilty I believe they are expelled. I have also heard rumors, although I cannot cofirm them so please take this with a grain of salt, that there are been several individuals in this current 1st semester class that were accused of cheating and honor council meetings have taken place.

Thanks for the information. Is the Honor Council comprised of faculty and student government representatives?
