I recently found out there are two honor councils, one is completely students and the other is a mix of students and faculty. The accused student can choose which one to go to but ultimately the administration has the final say. I got THIS information from one of my friends that was elected to the honor council for next semester, which is comprised of both students and faculty. I unfortunately do not have any other information on the subject but if you PM me I will do my best to track it down from my friend.

I love that people always have a premade excuse for why they did poorly.

I just can't stand cheaters. I saw them in my premed classes and now they are here in med school. I thought the cheaters would be weeded out by now.

I pray I will have the chance to turn a cheater in. It would make me so happy to send one of those posers packing.
thats pretty sad...goes to show how desperate you are to make yourself feel better rather than working your butt off to get the grades where you wouldn't have to worry about the cheaters. They will eventually get theirs in this field regardless of who turns them in or not. Worry about yourself.

Well, since our grades are not curved, I don't see how it affects us anyways.

However, if you do see someone cheating, it's up to you to turn them in, but all in all, cheaters will either get caught or won't make it on the shelves.

I know it's upsetting, but what can we do? Worrying about just takes away more time from studying for the next mini.

You know what I love? I love how people can't spell...premaid? Or premade? Must not be a literary genius, a book writer, or an English major after all!

Ha! You got me.

In any case, I'm not sure what I was thinking when I wrote that comment in the first place. It is strangely unrelated to this thread.

Everyone keeps saying that the cheaters will eventually be weeded out by the USMLEs, which for the most part is probably true, but what about those cheaters who are strong students to begin with, and for the one test they didn't have time to study (had fight with significant other for two weeks and got no studying done), and then the exam comes up, they cheat, score extremely well as usual (when if they did NOT cheat, they would have done horribly) and continue to maintain a pseudo-excellent performance? Then what? And with the cheating done in that one block, that is not enough of a lack of info to be weeded out by the USMLE...then what? Cheating is still bad and annoying, and it will still affect us all in the end no matter what...someone WILL look better on paper than you do because they cheated. So, constantly saying that "cheaters will eventually be weeded out" will NOT weed out all the cheaters, and is a passive statement that makes a strong assumption.

if that's true, what can you do? i guess hope that someone notices and possibly turns them in. the reverse effect could be that good student, seeing that he could cheat and get by on one test may try and do it again. this could leave him vulnerable in getting caught or not learning that information he didn't learn in the first place.

i'm sure some cheaters do get by, i would have to believe that the majority of them do get what they deserve. whether it is now or years down the road. it takes a certain type of person to cheat on tests and this will eventually catch up with them.

What you can do is stick to your principles and live and practice medicine fairly and justly. If you do this, you are doing *yourself* a service. Those who cheat, likely do it alot, and many do not get caught. I'm sure there are physicians out there writing fake prescriptions and making shady deals with other doctors, pharmacists, and drug companies. Do all of them get caught? No. BUT, they will pay for it not in terms of legal problems but in terms of conscience and guilt. It WILL come back to them sooner or later. They might not be in prison, but the day will come when they are lying in bed and hear cop sirens and wake up in a cold sweat, whereas your honest doctor will be little more than annoyed. Everything has repercutions, and the human spirit and conscience can be your greatest friend or your greatest enemy.

Cheating reveals a character flaw. If you cheat on exams and get away with it why would you not "cheat" when you are practicing....not admitting to an error, not giving the best service to your patients, etc.
Adversity (pressures of med school) reveals character, it does not strengthen character.
