Question Scheduling Pediatric Electives Without Core?

Hello, I am a clinical years Ross student, I am leaning towards pediatrics, is it possible to complete some Pediatric Electives before the Pediatric Core? i.e. because Pediatric Core is difficult to schedule I find myself doing adult medicine electives, which while interesting I may be better spending my time doing pediatrics electives, thanks for any input!

Ezra

this is what i wanted to know too, if you can schedule electives without having done cores first, lets say IM or FP cores

I'm not aware of any peds electives that you can take before doing your peds core, which is unfortunate.

I managed to get my peds core in my 3rd year, but had to do a lot of grunt work to get it, because I knew I wanted to do peds. so, keep calling advisors, keep the pressure on, and maybe you can get a spot.

PM me if you have specific questions...

hi

Look into the peds cores in Chicago. Contact Jackson Park Hospital, St. Anthonys, or AIME. If you want the contact numbers, send me a private message and I will give you direct numbers to the coordinator.

I think if you've done FM you can then do Peds Electives w/o the core. FAmily allows you to do electives in a lot of fields.. good luck!

They seem to be pretty strict about this in NY.

People can always do what I did, go back to dominica to complete peds in a timely manner. The only issue is obtaining a letter of Rec from a US doctor, but that issue can be easily circumvented by doing a peds SubI in peds and then getting a letter.

What is the wait time for peds core in Dominica? People were posting that they had been bumped from there too.
