Having Problems or Ever Had Problems with the NJ office, Voice your Concern, so reform can be made!!!
Hi everyone, first of all good luck with everyone's studies at the island and good luck for all the new 1st termers that are taking off for May.
I am writing this post to tell everyone who ever had a problem and still has problems with the NJ office to voice their concern as soon as possible. Thats the only way to get reform done. So if you ever got your transcripts lost, dont get phone calls answered on time, dont get your emails answered, send in material and get a response a month later, almost missed a clinical because of paperwork disorganization at the NJ office, got your clinical grade lost, etc... Let it be known! I cant wait to get to the island to join SGA, i am all about reform and bringing my school name the best reputation possible and helping students have the best experience (or at least one with least pain) possible. To be honest, i had so much problems with the NJ office i almost withdrawled my entire application from Ross and didnt want to go there anymore, but Thank You Dr. Clutter, that man is so helpful that he makes me feel that Ross has hope to change since they can hire someone as helpful and dedicated as him. I am sure some of you experienced some of these issues, i have a cousin and 8 current students at Ross I met/know and every single one of them has a similar senerio they came up with. This is some of the stuff I been faced with so far, i got my transcripts lost twice, i always get voicemails instead of an admissions counselor, then when i leave a message or email , i dont get a call back for the life of me. I was sent a letter saying i have been accepted to the May semester, but i have missing coursework, when in fact , i never did, they were just like ooo, we didnt see Organic Chemistry because they didnt look in enough detail. Most Recently I was told to Overnight my Visa application so they can process it as soon as possible, and i kept being told, make sure you overnight it so we can process it the same day, i overnighted it, and 10 days later after calling everyday since i overnighted it, the NJ office didnt acknowledge receiving it and actually disputed i ever sent it, until i told them that i looked up my tracking number and Ross signed off on it, even then i was told to wait and call tommorrow. I called the next day and was told to call the next day, this went on for 4 days. Then although I hate bugging him, because he is busy, i called Dr. Clutter at the Maimi Office at his number (305-667-5351) and he is so nice and helpful, he took care of the matter for me, and i got a call within 5 minutes from the NJ office (only because I went through Dr. Clutter and he called the NJ office himself for me) finally saying they got my Visa application and will process it today. But i mean does a student need a connection to get a phone back from their own school. So I voiced my concern to Dr. Clutter and told him the story and was told to tell the Director of Admissions some of the problems i had which i did( his number is 1-888-404-7677 extension 2669. The director of admissions was very helpful, he wrote down my comments and informed me to next time get the name of any admissions counselor or person at the NJ office who did not call back promptly or at all, or of any incident of loss etc... and call him back. So please guys, reform can be made, if your concerns are shown, call the numbers to get your concerns heard and let them know of any past or present unpleasant NJ office experiences so reform can be made. Again the Director of Admissions number is : 1 888-404-7677 X2669. Dr. Clutter, the most helpful employee at Ross I ever met, and the director of the Maimi office number is 305-667-5351. |

by the way
by the way, to add on the previous post, i was told by a Ross official that the Director of Admissions is new, just started Auguest 2002, and he is sincere in trying to reform the NJ office, maybe students can give him help by giving him feedback. Thats why i feel that voicing your concern is so vital to be done as soon as possible, that way he can know what direction to take with leading the Admissions office and running it and what to avoid and work on improving from the Students' feedback!

Not enough staff
Its always a good idea to share your CONSTRUCTIVE FEEDBACK with the people in charge. In fact, the directors of each department in NJ I have dealt with have been VERY helpful, but the support staff is just overburdened. So, I encourage everyone to share your feedback with the Director of Admissions in a constructive way. Posting your complaints about the Admissions Office on this forum is fruitless. This isn't an official forum run by the admissions office and doesn't get reviewed by that department. I assure you that Dean Wagner knows all the problems there are with the Admissions Office, but his opinion doesn't likely have any impact on the New Jersey office.

re:
I agree, do not post your concern here, i posted it here merely to encourage students to call the Director's office and make their voice heard. Also i think the problem with the NJ office has to do with more then understaffing, even Dr. Clutter admits, let me give you an example, Dr. Clutter is staffed with only one assistant but he still manages to answer all questions, give prompt responses and get things done, we just need more people like Dr. Clutter, its not with the quantity of the people at NJ office only but with the QUALITY of the people they hire!
PS MitchDC its not about giving constructive criticism or not, its just voicing your concern, if your concern shows that you had problems then show it and tell the office in a respectful way. I see where you come from as you tend to defend the school administration, but i come from a different prospective, i try to reform instead of sit back and accept the abuse. I try to get things done and actually work on doing effective things to get this NJ office and Ross to improve. Not to say you dont Mitch, i am just showing you my prospective and the purpose of my original post. PSS I agree dean Wagner may not have enough influence to change the NJ office, thats why students should call the Director of Admissions directly and voice their concern to the appropiate school official, thats the only way things are going to get done and improved. I swear to god, every person i met who is going to Ross or went to Ross had some type of trouble they faced with the NJ office, i bet you if all these students that complained to me did so to the NJ office for the past 25+ years a huge amount of improvement would of taken place, the only way to improve is from the students to voice their concern, if students dont then Ross Administration may assume that their operation is running perfectly and may not find the incentive to improve the quality, but if they keep hearing concerns of flaws they have, i guarantee you change and improvement will take place. Being a student officer and student governement advisor and senator for many years at my undergrad University gave me plenty of experience on how stuff gets done at the administration level and what is effective in making reform take place. Believe it or not, the sole determinent of how much improvement takes place depends on how much students want change and ask for improvement, if you dont voice your concern, NOTHING GETS DONE. |

get it in writing
I've shared my experiences with a non-NJ Ross official who then told me to write it up and email them. They have tried to forward student's complaints but the NJ office just accuses them of making it up. So email in your evidence to back up your advocates.
One possible reason for the problems this spring is that in the move from NY to NJ, they let many NY people go and filled the staff with temps. Brace yourselves for the transition to DeVry people. I wonder how DeVry students feel about their admins. |

not entirely agree.
I haven't encountered too many problems. I was assigned to one of the employee over there who handles my file. It seems that my emails are not answered unless I call. When I call, the person who answered the phone always try to transfer me to the person that was assigned to handle my application.
So it seems that in order to get an answer, I can only call that person directly. anyway, you haven't even started school on the Island. Your experience is very limited. You can't expect for a first class treatment all the time. I am sure that you have heard about stories of waiters spit in cutomers' food, etc. They don't do that just to anyone, they do that only to those who are demanding too much, or who are not nice. I am sure that the people who work at NJ office have their own disgruntlement. Mayhap they are not happy with their salaries, or they may feel that there are so many things to do with so few human power, etc, etc. You can't force them to act happy all the time, and serve you without any complains. Put yourself into their positions, maybe you will understand. |

re:
preppystud, if you look at the original post, it was indicated that Ross University should do something about this, not only its NJ employees, the flaw is in the structure and the organization of the office. The employees are only employees, its the University that has to worry about its education and offering its students an honest and organized education.
The problem is not that of the NJ employees only but that of the University itself for not finding out what the core of the problem is and correcting it. And your explanation of having a bad day has nothing to do with the core issue, these problems have been ongoing for years, not just a one day thing as you may experienced yourself. The core of the problem should be found, whether its the structure of the NJ office, the understaffing, the low salaries, the under-qualifications that some employees may have, the lack of degree educated or higher educated personal, whatever the core of the problem may be should be recognized and corrected. |

NJ office
I have had only a few dealings with the NJ office. So far every time I have e-mailed them with a question I received a phone call within 24 hours. They lost my MCAT scores but then again my undergrad college lost my high school transcripts two times in a row. These problems do happen. Granted they happen more often at Ross. I think most current and prospective students are aware of this problem, and posting your concerns in a constructive way is good. But I have read all of your posts about this and you seem to be beating a dead horse. It is great to post the contact info for the proper admin for current and prospective students to voice their opinions, but you are now going well beyond this. You are beginning to be a little too aggressive. You can easily post your disappointment with the NJ admin and post all of the contact info in a non- threatening way. It is starting to appear like you are angry you chose to attend Ross. Any good politician will tell you this is not the way to go about making change, nor is it the place. All you are doing is scaring prospective student away. Is this your goal?

re:
none4now, nothing in my post is threatening, i dont know where you got that from, and I am not trying to scare prospectives away, but its good for them to be aware of it, why hide it from them, i wish i knew what i know now. Its good to be honest with all prospects, if a school is clean and clear it will have nothing to hide or wont scare anyone off. Voicing students' concern is not threatening whatsoever. Two Ross officials I spoke to acknowledged the NJ office problem, its not a one time incident thing, i wish it was, the problem needs to be voiced for reform, with no concern from students no reform can be made. That's my goal, my goal isn't to scare anyone away from Ross. Ross is my school now too, but I am not going to defend something thats wrong. I am an honest politician if i become one, not a dishonest one, or one who shows the good things and tries to hide the crap under the carpet, i like for people to see all sides of everything that way an informed choice can be made. Also my concerns here was solely to encourage those who face difficulty with Ross NJ office to represent that concern to the proper officials like i did, even the Admissions Director thanked me for voicing my problem, they cant fix stuff they dont know about. They dont sit in the NJ office 24/7 watching over the staff, its through comments and feedback from the consumer (us the students) does the business (ross , and yes ross is a business) fix the problem to help improve the product offered (MD). Example if you had static with your cell phone 24/7, do you think Sprint will ever attempt to fix the static problem if the consumers dont make them aware of the problem, i dont think so, same goes for this situation. So please dont misinterpret my initial post or twist words around. Any rational person can recognize the theme of the post and realize the main theme of posting it and how real the problem is and that my true intention for posting it is to restore Ross's reputation and help prospective and current students to go through their medical school journey as painless as can be made. I say as can be made because these things Ross should fix are VERY doable and simple if they set their minds and resources to correct it, and this can make students' live's much easier!
But i do realize that this post got thrown out of proportion, I did not intend for anyone to respond to my original post and take it as if i was trying to get online complaints, my intention was to give contact information to solve issues when faced with them. I just try to fix misinterpretations like those i get from you none4now, hehehe, thats all, but lets let the reader make what they want out of this thread and judge and decide what they want to do with the information. |
