arrival in DOM after orientation

Hi,
I am trying to arrange flight reservations. Seems like I can get to DOM the week before classes start. But I may miss the orientation. Can get there in time to register mid-week but not in time for orientation. Can not seem to get the connecting flight to DOM in time for orientation.

Is that a big deal? Would I miss a ton if I miss orientation, or could I just pick up a package or find out what I missed through other sources?

Thanks, SS

Orientation..

Sam,

I'm gonna tell ya straight up.....orientation is absolutely unnecessary. Notice I didn't say worthless, just not necessary. You are about to become bogged down everday with more material than you can shake a stick at. Try not to spend your few days prior to starting this on a small, natural island listening to Dominicans tell you what email is. Orientation will tell you what you already know, what you will find out easily on your own in a matter of days, and what you don't care about all together. Although that gorgeous, tall Dominican IT girl has a good head on her shoulders, she tends to forget that Americans, Asians, Indians and most other students there are years ahead of Dominican intelligence. Other than IT issues, which will hardly be addressed throughout your time there because the staff is mostly Dominican, you can find out for yourself anything you need to know. Go and see the island, it may be your last good chance to do so unless you spend a break there. Take it easy and relax in preparation for the semester. It's up to you, but that's my two cents.

just ask the adminstration if theyll charge you more for registering later...that might be the only problem

arrival to DOM after orientation

Thanks very much for your responses. I think I will proceed with arriving later in the week, in time for regular registration. Just can't seem to get there for the orientation.

Thanks SS
