come down the carib path to make a decisison after you AT LEAST attempted to get into a US allopathic med school. you have to at least try.... and with you stats..... if you do a shotgun approach..... there is a chance (if not good already) you will get into one of them.

edit: although i do know somebody from an ivy league school that had a double major (one science and one nonscience) with a 3.4 total gpa and 3.4 science with a 32 mcat that did the shotgun approach and only got waitlisted at one school.

but, he at least tried to get into the states. with a stat like that (mainly the mcat)..... he had to at least give it a chance..... you should too.

Dude, I would re-apply with those numbers if I didn't get in the first year, not very uncommon. I wouldn't come back to this forum for at least a year.

I meant to say that even after not getting in on my first attempt, that I would wait and re-apply for the next year. Many us med students re-apply before getting in.

I was just under the assumption that the opportunity cost of continuing to reapply vs. going to a carib school and returning would end up saving me a lot of money in the long run (unless I was accepted to a cheap instate school in the US). I mean an internal med doc is an internal med doc and the salary is not going to differ significantly based upon where I went to medical school. Thats 2 additional years of $100-150k salary in my life if I just go straight to the carib versus applying and then reapplying if Im not accepted the first round. Perhaps, I will apply to US schools this year and then also apply to SGU/Ross at the same time. I just don't see how I can justify the loss of income when my salary is going to be the same whether specialist, I have a strong desire to work with underserved populations. I don't know if this has any bearing on admissions committees when they I go to a carib school or a US school. I am not looking to work as a consider GPA, but I did attend a top 20 undergraduate institution. I really WISH I could just erase my freshmen year so that I wouldn't be in this predicament. My GPA for each of the following years was 3.8+, but my freshmen year totally screwed my overall and science GPA.

Hey everyone i guess that I might also *contribute* to this thread by asking my chances

my overall and science GPA is approx 2.6
doing my mcat in june, but a small thing is that i was recently diagnosed with ADHD and getting treatment for it. My previous years gpa was 3.0 and this year i have a couple of A's and couple B;s and a 3 C's. So i emailed ross and saba about my situation and they said that they will consider it when looking at my application, and my over gpa is higher than before and basically had to learn how to study. So with a solid performance on the Mcat (hoping for 25 ish) what do you thing are my chances.

Also for quite a few of the science courses that i didnt so so good i did the higher level and got a better mark

Also if i need i can get good letters of recommendations from my A course instructors.

So any thoughts?

2.6 is toward the low side, what is your GPA in science? I would not tell anyone that I suffer from ADHD. I think they would look at that as a negative or an excuse (Even if it is true), they might think you must rely on medication just to study and pass tests. I would say that I have changed my study habits and I am ready to take on med. school. Just do great on the MCAT and the proof will be in the pudding. That is just my opinion.

Good luck!

yeah....shoot for higher 20s.

2.6 is on the low side for Ross....but do well on the MCAT and there is at least the possibility of MERP instead of flat out rejection.
