D.O.C--Also an OIF Vet, still active duty. My stats were lower than yours and I got in for Fall 08, but I decided to go to AUC instead. Did you look at US Schools? A 31 is pretty decent, and your masters GPA helps. You should be a shoe in. PM me if you have any questions.

Hello everyone...just another from the, "what are my chances" variety.

I have a 3.2 with a 31 on the MCAT (taking it again in April), 500+ hours at the same psychiatric clinic for volunteering and 100+ hours in the ER. I am about to work as an EMT for the next 6 months (although that won't show up on the application ). 1 Letter of Rec from an MD, 1 from Science Prof, 1 from Social Science Prof, 1 from an RN (who knows me well).

I'm a non science double major but all my prereqs are done at about 3.15 GPA. Hoping for Ross for SGU, don't think I have a chance at US and don't want to do post-bacc/masters...help plz!

I don't think you have too much to worry about, your stats sound pretty good, especially with that MCAT!

I think you have a great chance. I got in for May 2008 with lower MCAT but better GPA. Why don't you try DO???

Thanks for the responses everyone. I appreciate all the help!

Well, I am still applying to a few DO schools but after weighing all things, I think I might choose Caribs over DO.

I've looked for websites and stuff couldn't find much about the basics, could you help me out. Thanks all.

Hey,
I think u can balance the MCAT and GPA.... The lower your GPA, the higher your MCAT needs to be and vice versa! I think Ross reports that they like a MCAT score of 24.... I think this varies according to the applicant's overall application (volunteer, experiences, etc...). However, I have heard about some students getting into Ross with 20 MCATs and 3.2 GPAs... So don't worry too much if u want to get into Ross! If you are a Jr. in college, you might want to think about studying really hard for the MCAT to get into a US school! Well, I hope I was a little helpful. Good luck!

I think you would be competitive for SGU with your current MCAT. Here's a link to their average entrance stats. Medical Sciences Student Statisitcs - School of Medicine - St. George’s University

Well man whatever works for you. Your stats are great. Carib schools are great, I really appreciate them being there but I would have gone the DO way b/c living in a third world country is pretty tough (I lived in one half of my life) and the clinical situations scare me a little. Good luck to you!!!!

What are my chances?

Hello everyone,

I'm at my last year at Berkeley and currently in a dilemma trying to decide whether I should go to a caribbean school or take a year off and apply again to a U.S. med school. GPA's 3.3 MCAT's 22 (only taken it once) and I have lots of volunteer and leadership experiences and one research experience that lasted about a semester but my GPA and MCAT stats are definitely at the low end. What would you recommend?
