Hi All!
I'm new to the forum, but I have a Ross interview coming up in a couple of weeks in Toronto and I was wondering if anyone had any specific advice on how to answer some of the interview questions. A lot of the posts are very helpful so thank you!
Specifically, since I am a Canadian applicant I do not know much about the HMO situation - any advice on how to answer such a question?
Thanks a lot!!
Maria

If you are going to practice in canada, you will not have problems like in the US with HMO's.

Arrow Questions posted thus far

Hey guys, I thought itd be nice to re-post all the interview questions in the thread thus far. Thank you to all those who contributed

3. What do you think about the HMO issue?
4. What is your opinion of assisted suicide?
5. What would you do if you had a patient who asked you to assist them in ending their life?
6. How do you plan on paying for your education?
7. What area of medicine do you have in mind?
8. What kind of relationship do you want to have with your patients?

"Why do you want to be a doctor?
What types of leadership positions did you have in college?
What types of clinical experience do you have?
Will you be able to survive on the island?
What has been your greatest hardship and how did you deal with it?
What was your favorite class in college and why?
Why did you get a "C" in this course?
What other schools have you applied to?
What was the result of applying to those schools?
Why were you not accepted to a US medical school?
Why are you applying to Ross?
Are you content with becoming an FMG vs. being a US Medical grad?
What is your weakness?
What is your strength?
What do you know about living in Dominica?
How do you feel about living in a third world country?
How do you deal with stress/pressure?
What made you want to go to Ross?
If you could change something about yourself, what would it be?
How did you get here?
Why would you be a good doctor?
What would you do if you don’t get in to medical school?
What do you feel are the most important qualities in being a good doctor?
What do you do to alleviate stress? What are your hobbies?
Are you a leader or a follower? Give examples...
What exposure have you had to the medical profession? Healthcare experience? What did you do when you volunteered at ----?
What do you think you will like most about medicine/being a doctor?

Most important question:
Why do you want to be a doctor?
What motivates you to pursue this field?
What makes you unique?
What other field would you choose if you do not get accepted to any Medical School (Caribbean or otherwise)?
Why did you get (insert bad grade) in (insert class)?
What was the most challenging class for you during your undergraduate studies and why do you think so?
Will you be able to handle living in a foreign country?

What do you know about Ross and why did you choose to apply here?
What other schools have you applied to?
What else would you like to tell the Committee about yourself that is not included in your essay or application?

the guy i had, S.R., asked me about my volunteer work, why i wanted to become a doc, asked me about the courses i took at my undergrad, why i had done what i had done early on in undergrad,

10. why do you want to go to ross.
11. why did you do bad in this particular class.
12. is there anything you want me to tell the admission committee.

1) Tell me a little about your family background...
2) Are there any physicians in your family?
3) Are you bilingual? (he commented that this is important because of the role doctors that are bilingual are having in minority healthcare)
4) What made you want to be a doctor?
5) We went over my transcripts here...
6) We spoke about my volunteer and physician shadowing experience here...
7) What was your favorite pre-medical course?

10) What are some of your non-academic strengths?
11) What are some of your non-academic weaknesses?
12) Has your family ever pushed you into practicing medicine? (he probably asked me this because there are doctors in my family)
13) Are there any areas of Medicine you believe could use reform?

- What is it that made you want to become a doctor?
- You have a patient who you just found out is terminally ill, how are you going to handle the family?
- If you won the lottery would you still go to medical school?
- Tell me about your previous healthcare experience
- Tell me about your volunteer experience
- How will you adjust to life on the island?
- Have you done any research?
- What do you think will be the most significant issues you encounter in your career as a physician?

Here are some questions I asked the interviewer:

- Does Ross use PBL?
- What service (volunteer) opportunities are available on the island?
- How are clinical evaluations conducted?
- Does Ross have clinical sites outside of the US?
- Please tell me more about the few months spent in Miami
- Is there a mechanism in place for students to evaluate their professors?
- Since Ross is outside the US, do they have a mechanism in place for providing Hep B vaccinnes or prophylactic AZT treatment in case of a needle stick or accident?

For my interview in Ft. Worth, I was asked:
1. About my background-like what my parents do for a living; if they support my decision to attend med school, etc.
2. Went over transcript, asked about why I had a bad semester 2nd yr.
3. Why do you want to be a doctor? Qualities of a good doctor?
4. What will you do if you don't get in med school? applying anywhere else?
5. What is your weakness? what do you do to destress?
6. What would you do if you found out your best friend cheated on an exam and if you told on her she would be expelled?
7. Went over volunteer/work experience. What the defining moment was that made me realize I have to be a doctor.

My turn to ask qs: What % of grads become chief residents? what do you look for in a prospective applicant?

- Tell me about your family background.
- Are you a follower or a leader?
- Describe an experience where you overcame adversity.
- Why do you want to be a doctor?
- What is your favorite non-science course?
- What is your least favorite science course?
- Who do you look up to?
- Why Ross?

The suspense is killing me!

I just want to share my interview experience. I received an invite for an interview in San Francisco by email about a week prior to the interview date. I made arrangements and flew out. The interview was really relaxed and most of the questions posted in this thread already were asked. I walked away feeling pretty good about the experience. I was told that it would take a week or two before I would know. Well its been a week and my status changed to review a about a week later. The next day it change to decision made. Its been two days since the decision has been made and I still don't know if I got accepted or not. I called the NJ office and they said they didn't know and that it might take a couple of days before the "decision" is accessible. Anyway the suspense is killing me. I would like to know because I applied for May and I need to get everything ready if I do make it in. Well I just thought I would share my experience in case others are experiencing the same.

I had my interview in Chicago on Tuesday...L.S told me that the file was going to be expedited...I don't think she was joking because it already says that a decision has been made...is that a good sign?

I asked her about the clinical rotations rumors...she knew right away that I'd been here...to ValueMD lollz...anyways...she said that they weren't true...and that there were actually more positions available than there are students...the only time problems arise is when a student wants to do all of his/her rotations in one place so they dont have to move around alot...even though she said that even that was possible to do.

btw...I was asked the same questions everyone has been posting...but I had a couple of new ones...

* Do you think that your pre-medical coursework at your university will help prepare you for the Basic Sciences curriculum at ross? and how so?
* Did you consider re-taking your MCAT? why or why not?

there were a couple of other ones...i'll post them when i remember them...lollz...im blanked out right now...

Maria, how did you get an interview in Toronto?? I live in Toronto as well and it would be A LOT more convenient for me but they told me to go to Chicago and when I asked if I could get interviewed in Toronto they said that they didn't have any representatives there..
Did you request to have your interview in Toronto or did they just assign it?
