power transformer and socket
if I get that single traverl adapter and hook it up to a surger protector, will it work fine for all the things I plan on plugging in there?
and is the socket the same as what we use here in the states? |

Guys, don't buy your transformers in the states and lug them here. They weigh a ton and will eat up all your luggage weight allowance. Transformaers are widely available here, both new and used from previous students and from the Island Thrift shop. Make sure you get one that has enough wattage to cover all the appliances you plan to use. As for a surge protector, it's a good idea to have one...yes, they can be the 110 volt types you buy at home.

NOOOOOOOOooooooooooooooooooo
NO, the plugs here are NOT the same as they are in the states and the travel converters you guys are discussing will NOT be adequate to change the voltage of MOST of your appliances. You computer will auto-convert, but I have known a LOT of students who's computers blew because they only used a converter.
What you will need in most apartments is a TRANSFORMER. They are VERY HEAVY and they step the voltage DOWN from 220V to 110V (like we have in the states). They also run on 50Hertz here instead of 60Hz like we use in the states. SO, if you bring a cordless phone, for example, that says it works with 60Hz, but doesn't list 50Hz, the transoformer will run really HOT. Like several have stated before, but all this stuff here AFTER you find out if your apartment already has a transformer, 110outlets, or whatever. 1 TEST TO GO! (for this semester anyways) MitchDC
