Looking for a roomate for Kootney resort

Hey! My name is Brooke and I was just accepted to start in May last week. I was looking into housing options today and read on ValueMD about this Kootney resort place, which looks AMAZING. Therefore, I'm looking for someone, preferably female, to share one of these condos with me. The rent should be around $600/mo if we split it evenly. Check this place out! It's AMAZING!!! Kootney Resort

Send me an email if you're interested! SMASHR7@aol.com

housing for Sept "08

Hi, just got accepted today for Sept '08, new to valuemd, not sure if I'm navigating correctly...sorry if I'm posting incorrectly! I am married w/ a 14-mo-old daughter. Can anyone offer advice on 2 bed/1 bath housing appropriate for families?? Checked out Kootney, looks fabulous but nothing currently open for Sept. Thanks!!

I'm looking for housing starting in May...anyone heard anything about the Lucy Inn apts? On the housing database, it says the place is new, and that's what the pictures reflect. I emailed the landlord and they sent me a list of what the place comes with and it's pretty substantial (should be for $870/month!). Anyhow, has anyone lived here before that has an opinion? I wanted to go down there sometime this month to secure housing so I don't get stuck with a crappy place but now that's not looking so good...I'm just leary about putting down a deposit on a place I haven't seen with my own eyes!

I read the threads a lot before I came down here and found 3 that were rated the best. I went to the ones that had websites and ended up calling and wiring the deposit so I didn't have to worry about the housing tour.

However, most people do not do this and they all go on the housing tour once they get here. Please keep in mind that pictures can be very deceiving. I walked in to my apt for the first time and thought there must be some mistake. In reality, I just took the little bits that were given in the picture and mentally pieced it all together...incorrectly. I actually really like where I live now that I'm settled, but I was taken aback a little bit at first.

If I can offer you any advice it's this...LISTEN TO WHAT OTHER PEOPLE SAY! If someone says that they don't have hot water where they live, they are not lying to you. I know a girl that has not had a hot shower in a year (I don't know why she didn't just move, but that's also not my problem). If a landlord says they are going to be getting something soon (i.e. a generator, cable, internet, etc) there is a 99% chance that they are NOT going to have those things...EVER. They have good intentions, but the follow through is horrible.

The housing database is nice, but it's also a little fictitious. Avie's is NOT a 5 min walk to campus - and it is absolutely, 100% not even remotely close to the annex. A lot of people live there but they have to take the (free) bus.

The annex is NOT on campus. The annex is a building off campus where 1st semester classes are held. It's about a 10-15 min walk from the annex to campus - they do, however, have (free) buses that will take you from campus to the annex and back.

1st semester orientation is held the week before classes start. If you get here 2 weeks before classes start, you should be ok in terms of finding a place. I came only a few days before orientation started and the other students on my flight who had to do the housing tour found a place without problem. Keep in mind that the closer you get to orientation, the less selection you will have.

I hope this helps. I'll try to check back in and see if I can offer any more tips.

Does power go out often in the apartments? Should I consider having an apartment with a generator before I consider anything else? Also, can anyone comment on the Nature Island apts? Are there any special concerns about having an apartment on a hill? I would really appreciate anyone helping me out with these questions. Thanks.

I would not look for a place b/c it specifically has a generator....power goes out on avg once a week for a few hours....when the power goes out at night...you don't notice....and if it is during the day or evening...just go to campus to study.....

most places advertise to have generators...but a lot of them aren't even hooked up or in working condition

Any thoughts on Mac&Judy's and Mervin Irish apts?

i'll be starting in September, and I'm looking for suggestions on places that are in a good/convenient location (close to campus), internet included, 110 voltage, and all necessary amenities (furniture, kitchen appliances, pots/pans). thanks.

Not sure where Marvin Irish Apts are, but Mac & Judy's are in a prime location, right behind Brothers/Bobs restaurants and across the street from the shacks, essentially. The ONLY downfall is that it's right near Fusion, the bar/hangout place, and it gets LOUD on the weekend. So, unless you foresee yourself studying at home on the weekends, I'd say it's a good place to be for pretty much your entire stay on the rock.
