Re: george nanthan

I am really not trying to discourage any of the incoming students, HOWEVER, with so many 1st semester students (this is the largest January class) and w/ so many of them coming in late, they were desperate to move and are scrambling for anything close to campus. I spoke w/ the housing office and they have said that based on what they know of expecting BMSI as well as 4th semester students, nearly all of what will be left on the "close to campus" sites will be gone. HOWEVER, not all since many don't/can't pay the high rent that is around those parts. I do also recommend coming in early.
RUMed isn't joking-- i've seen 5 family groups walking around school and such.
To brandon653, blanca heights is a good place only when they do have everything working, according to my friend who lives there. When the electricity gets cut it seems to take longer for those residents to get it-- don't know why but it just appears that way- but electricity doesn't cut out often here. Hot water isn't a problem (you will have a water heater in your place) -- water in general is cause it is up the hill-- so the water has to go UPhill. I don't know if they pump it up or if it is pressurized-- but unless they fix the problem over break-- expect to stock pile some water-- as we all do here-- you never know!
Good luck
Also, bring an extra pair of walking shoes-- CanIMG must have long legs and a super fast trot-- seemed to me more like 15-- at least!

Re: george nanthan

Last week, I saw a group of 3 first semester checking my place out. Then one more later on in the week. Yesterday, I talked to one first semester guy looking for a place.

I wouldn't worry about it. Just get here safely and you'll find a place to live. It might not be your ideal apartment buy you'll have to adjust. Unfortunately, we're not little kids anymore. Regardless of where you live, the next 16 or so months will be the toughest time, for most of you, academically.

Re: george nanthan

Dudes,

When I came here I also went through this George Nanthan phase. Don't sweat the housing. You'll find somewhere nice - and perhaps even closer.
10 Minutes is a long walk in this place. Consider the shortest routes for a lot of housing (including new ones cropping up) at the same and if not lower prices, within the vicinity of the campus district (Robert Ross Blvd.) and you will be surprised at what you can find.

All the best,

-Incog

PS: Either way, you get the best studying done at school no matter where you live.

Housing in Dominica

I am looking to choose housing for the fall semester. Looking through the housing website, it is very hard for someone to choose an apartment when they have never been there. So I want to make sure I choose something that I won't regret once I get down there. So that being said, I like these silverlining apartments on the website. Any comments on these? What are some of the best apartments down there both in terms of utilities and location? information would be greatly appreciated!

Re: SilverLining apartments?

I think they are a bit far away for the price you'll pay there.

silver lining

I have lived there for 3 semesters. They are really nice apartments about a 10-12 min walk to school. The landlord is ok but it takes him forever to do anything but thats common here on the island. When I got here May last year he said he had a generator which he was installing. They just got it working this semester. The apartments are kind of expensive but they are nice and have some really nice people living here.

avies ville

lots of people live in avies ville. some people say it is noisy and some just love it. i think it depends on the semesters. the rooms are pretty comfortable. each room gets a nice size private bathroom. caution to the light sleeper. the walls are thin there.

pink house

nice place, couldn't be more convenient...it tended to be a party house (at least when I was there) if that would bother you. highly coveted property.
