Sub-electives at Wycoff... worth it??

Hi, I was wondering if anyone could help me out here.. not sure if I want to do it or not.. Since I'm starting IM in June, my advisor said I should do a sub-elective at Wycoff (neuro or path)... some have said it was a waste of time...

Please give me some feedback on this..I really don't want to pay for something that isn't worth it or rush the move of moving closer to Wycoff.

Thanks.

pathology at Wyckoff is actually pretty good. The hours are long but the attendings love to teach and they do it well. The medicine residents rotating thru path. services are good too. The afternoon Neuro. elective is not so great because the attending is always 1-2 hours late everyday and doesn't teach a whole lot. There was a 6:30 am neurology session ran by a different attending which was excellent but this elective has been discontinued.

I have heard that Path elective is highly recommended, but I agree the hours are long.

Plus side: It is easy to get this elective.

do they count towards anything? Is it more like looking at slides and having them explain? do they start on certain dates??

Thanks for answering this... my advisor isn't really helping me out much with this info. I called him three days ago asking him what was going on and he was like "oh yes, you're starting on June 12th, but I highly recommend an elective and it is up to you to contact Wycoff to do so"

So.. I really have no idea what's going.. who I contact, the dates.. and such.

Since I'm starting on June 12th, I just assumed I could begin May 22 (making it three weeks till my rotation)... Am I wrong on this?

Please help me out.
Thanks guys.

PS. How have you guys been with your advisors??? When I spoke to him on wednesday, he said he'd e-mail me my schedule by 4pm... he didn't. I called him everyday since then, and again, everyday he says by 4pm and still nothing...I don't want to call him anymore cause I'm afraid I'm buggin him too much and he might get annoyed... any suggestions?

Thread linked to Clinical Subforum in the Wycoff thread, where it should have gone in the first place.

...

I'm starting the neuro elective tomorrow. I am doing it mainly because it is easy on the hours etc. I have two friends who have done it and they said they did in fact learn something and although there is no patient contact. From my understanding hours are aprox 11:30-2 with wednesdays and weekends off.
