Appealing Dismissal?

So I've failed most of my first term classes at Ross. I wanted to know if anyone has any experiences appealing to the Promotions Committee? I have the choice between 1) withdrawing 2) File an appeal a) Appeal granted and I retake first semester b) Appeal rejected and I am dismissed. I lay the majority of the blame of my piss poor performance on myself. also if anyone has any advice on alternatives to Ross (where to apply?) and should I appeal or not?

Combination of bad study habits and a strong lack of a biology background.

wine bar syndrome? well I'd like to re-enter first semester. It really was a wake-up call. But I'm not sure if they'll allow me.

Well, it depends on how bad you did, if you failed BADLY then you should withdraw...if you failed one class or maybe two classes by just a point or two then you might want to appeal. IF you failed 2 or 3 classes by quite a bit, enough to say "hey I wasn't even close to passing in any way" then you should get out before you get dismissed. How many classes can you fail before having the option of getting kicked out? Is it like 2 classes before Ross is able to kick you out?

i guess acknowledging your faults is a good start. the pros of appealing to retake the first semester is that you're already familiar with the island and hopefully have adjusted to the living conditions.

Again Ross is a for profit company. So with that said it's really up to you. They will take you back regardless of whether you failed 1 class or all classes. In fact when I was on the island we had a number of students that had been there for a total of 16 months and were just now entering 3rd semester. You show em the money and they'll string you along.

If i were you, I'd reapply elsewhere.... like SGU. and don't mention that you did a semester at ross.

During my stay on the island, I've noticed things change for the worse. Ross' grading system, combined with disorganization and RUSHED SPEED, can make it difficult to do well. I think you'd benefit from the summer vacation they have at SGU, where you can review and consolidate all of 1st year's material.

Ross does not give you much of a break between semesters, and they force you to take the ridiculous and unnecessary 5th semester. If you are on the lower side of the bell curve, then you have another HUGE hurdle to get over- you need to take the Comp before Ross will even let you sign up for Step 1. So that can hold you back big time. Ross is ridiculous to think that students can consolidate 2 years worth of information during the last week of 4th semester. The concept is just ridiculous. US students don't even take a practice comp until they are just about done studying for STEP 1. It's the weedout before The weedout.

So I'd say forget about appealing, and see if you can get into SGU or AUC. They don't seem to have such ridiculous policies
