You are correct that once licensed your name and training data become part of the public record and many states publish this information on websites, including other biographical information and malpractice history, disciplinary actions etc.
In looking at match lists from US schools it appears about half do release the name of the graduate with their program the rest do not.Its optional for them.

Some specialties require a primary year in IM before you start training.

No..you are confusing this with "Preliminary"
Internal Med PRIMARY is an internal medicine residency which has more of a focus on outpatient care with less inpatient rotations. It is usually designed for those seeking to practice general internal medicine but a fellowship may follow such a residency.
An example of such a program http://info.med.yale.edu/intmed/pcimrp/

Cool thanks for the info. Had never heard of this. Preliminary Medicine I know well though as I start one in July.

So it's a basically a three year IM program that allows you to become board certified in IM BUT differs from the typical IM residency in the amount of inpatient training? Is it harder to get a fellowship coming from one of these programs? Are they more or less competetive then normal IM programs or is it more dependent on insititution/local then type of IM program which determines competetiveness. Just curious

I stand, corrected.

I should have perused the list, because I would have seen both primary and preliminary.
