rad onc is extremely comp!
there are like 135 spots or something total. I think that all but 1 or 2 spots always go to US grads. A lot of US grads dont match into it themselves. very tough. I heard about a girl from ross applying for it and not matching into it. |

I don't know if I'm all that impressed. Sure a few good spots here and there, but on average it is nothing to bring into the spotlight. Go to any match list of an American school and you will truly see a difference. I'm glad they all graduated and become docs, but my opinion is that the match list is by no means extraordinary.

Medical oncology is a subspecialty of IM and not matched into after med school.Radiation Oncology is matched right after med school and is one of the most difficult specialties to obtain.Even one match into that would be a big deal.
The overall message of this match list is that a carib med education will provide a good opportunity to enter a mid level primary care residency. How you perform there will determine your future opportunities.EM,Anes is very possible but still competitive.Since most US grads also enter primary care this is not a bad situation at all for those indivduals who didnt get into a US med school to begin with. The liklihood of getting the "desirable"specialties Rads,Optho,ENT,Urology,Ortho seems very low. Last edited by nyphys1; 04-13-2006 at 03:29 PM. |

List
A quick count identifies 265 matches listed on the website. According to my recollection, my class (Sept 2002) was about 200 students. The class before us was not as large as our class, nor was the class directly after us.
I'm not exactly clear where the posted match list came from. The University didn't solicit matches - so if it was entirely self-reported I'm impressed by how many students reported already. If they purchased the list its important to keep in mind that pre-matches are not listed, and I personally know an equal amount of pre-matches as I know individuals who matched or scrambled. At any rate, I have heard that they do hand out a form at graduation to report your match. So, I'll report at that time as I just haven't had time to send an official signed release to Ross without a pre-made form or anything to assist in the reporting. -M Quote:
