Has anyone done rotations here? I just got accepted to Ross and my in-laws are asking about rotations that I might do in their area. Anyway......

Haven't done it, but a couple friends of mine have. They tell me you will catch as many babies as you want. Somewhat weak on Gyne and the majority of the patient population is Spanish only speaking. Hope that helps.

I've done it. Loved it......while studying for boards I felt like I was extremenly well prepared for it. Scored pretty high on my OB/Gyne sections.
I'd recommend it for sure. Definately see a lot of action while u r there.
You do have a fair share of patients who don't speak anythign but spanish, but its not as bad as Miami.

I myself haven't done the rotation but I've known a lot of people who have done both OB/Gyn and IM.

IM is broken up into 6 weeks inpatient and 6 weeks outpatient. I'm not sure how often call is but it is a short call. No overnight. You stay until 10 p.m. You are broken up into groups and are assigned a resident. Depending on who the attending is supervising the resident and you, that is how many patients you will have to follow (some attendings have more patients than others). The groups that start IM at Michael Reese are fairly big (10-15 students). Attendings do didactic lectures 2-3 times per week. Most of your dealings are with the residents directly. Lots of opportunities to do IV's, Blood Draws, etc.

OB/Gyn is Q4 and from what I've heard, you can do a lot as far as delivering. Each week you are on a different service so you will rotate through Labor/Delivery, Gyne, Clinic. The attending in charge supposedly gives great lectures.

Michael Reese does have a large Spanish speaking population but definitely not as much as St. Anthony's. JPH is almost all English speakers. Housing at Reese is convenient b/c most students and residents live in the complex right behind the hospital.

Hope this info helps.

how are you supposed to get a rec letter if you never interact with the attending?

i don't think resident evals count for much

I heard that even the attendings eval don't count as much either unless they are a program director (or assistant PD).
