Update: June 2006

God, as Veetz said 6 weeks at MIH for trauma, ICU trauma; 6 weeks at SJ for operating room. At SJ you see many appendectomies. MIH is a trauma level 1 center. Ross has one MD on staff that is supposedly the chair of each dept. The surgical chair was at MIH and asking us about our opinion of the program yesterday. The biggest complaint was no food vouchers at the cafeteria. I know seems minor, but it means something when you have to run down to the cafeteria and scarf something awful down that may make you ill later, then pay for it three times a day. He sys that this may be fixed as Wyckoff bought out the CMC hospitals this past month. CMCs were bankrupt and using the money ross allocates for running the hospital. Better to have a rotation then not, right? Anyways, he also said that this is one of the best surgical rotations ross has. Now this guy is retired and has been for some time (Ross loves seniors!!) but it was still good to hear. He mentioned CT and I think somewhere in Boston as well.
This rotation is ACGME, if that is important.
Call varies: SJ was q4, 6am to 9 or 10am. Quizzes every Thursday which are pretty tough, and yes you gotta stay through lecture because the quiz is usually towards the end, even when you have wed call.

First if you look at a prior thread of mine over a year ago I indicated SVCMC was in chapter 11 bankruptcy. Looks like they sold off some unprofitabe units.

Second. Wyckoff used to offer free but tasteless meals. They did away with that several months ago so don't expect them to get free food. They want all the money they can get .

Third. If the hospitals taken over by Wyckoff have Acgme rotations ie: Surgery and ob/gyn then Wyckoff wouldn't need its affilation with Bronx Lebanon to be ACGME in surgery. It would just have to get one of the MD residents from its own affilliate ACGME rotation to go to Wyckoff for a specified time. If SJ or IMC have an ACGME program they could do the same thing and make the Wyckoff ob/gyn program ACGME.

Fourth. Wonder if JR will be handling the rotations at all three hospitals.

Fianlly maybe they could change the name of the hospitals to ROSS MEDICAL CENTER

Opinions.......

So any opinions on IM at CMC-Jamaica? Is it a learning rotation or a free labor rotation?

CMC is not owned by a medical school. It has been bought by Wyckoff, and the paperwork will be officially completed in the first week of January 2007. If you want to be kept updated...you can visit the following website for details on the acquisition:

Wyckoff Heights Medical Center

Any recent info about IM at CMC?

Last posts about IM have been outdated. Especially with all this talk about bankruptcy, I want to know how the program is recently. Also, any info about the Surgery rotation here? Any preference of any near-by surgery rotations instead of this one?
